Martha Roakes Mason, 87, formerly of Gladys, died on Thursday, January 7, 2021. She was the wife of the late James T. Mason.

She was born on July 9, 1933, in Gladys, a daughter of the late John Henry Roakes and Hattie Scott Roakes. She was a member of Kedron Baptist Church. Martha touched the lives many children over 27 years of babysitting locally.

She is survived by two sons, Joey Mason and his wife, Brenda, of Concord, and Jamey Mason and his wife, Melissa, of Monroe, Ga.; one brother, Clark Roakes of Lynchburg; four grandchildren, J.R. Mason and his wife, Ashley, Courtney Mason, Maggie Mason and Daniel Mason; four great-grandchildren, Shella Mason, Jameson Mason, Ronin Mason and Rosalyn Mason; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by seven sisters and seven brothers.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, January 10, 2021, at Kedron Baptist Church, Gladys, by the Rev. Jack Barrett. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m., Saturday, January 9, 2021, at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Gladys and other times at the residence of Joey and Brenda Mason, 168 Kimball Road, Concord, Va.
