George Deakin Obituary

Deakin, George T.
George Thomas Deakin, 85, of Southbury formerly of Danbury, beloved husband of Lota Dee (Henry) Deakin, died Wednesday, December 3rd at Danbury Hospital. He was the son of the late George Martin and Ethel (Wright) Deakin, born in Danbury on June 10, 1929.
George graduated from Danbury High School, class of 1947. He was a Veteran of the Korean War, proudly serving with the United States Army.
George was a parishioner of St. Peter Church for most his life. He grew up on Washington Ave. and graduated from St. Peter School. He worked as a hatter with his uncle at the Wright Hat Co. in Bethel. At the age of 14 he joined the Citizens Hose Volunteer Fire Co and remained a volunteer fireman for 71 years. He was also the Depot Manager at Pepperidge Farm in Ridgefield. He retired from the News-Times where he worked in the Circulation Dept for 25 years.
George was a devoted son, husband, father and grandfather. He was happiest when visiting with family and friends. His generous spirit blessed the many people he was always willing to help.
Along with his cherished wife, of 58 years, Lota Dee, he will be sadly missed by his children, David Deakin and his wife Carol, Matthew Deakin, Michael Deakin, Christine Deakin Dunleavy, Patrick Deakin and his fiancée Barbara, Robert Deakin, Karen Youngstrom and her husband Glenn, Nancy Dixon and his 12 treasured grandchildren. He will also be missed by his sister, Anne (Deakin) Durkin and her husband William; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, David Deakin; and his sister, Mary Kolwicz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 6th at 12:00 pm at St. Peter Church, 104 Main St, Danbury. Interment of cremated remains will be at Wooster Cemetery at the direction of the family.
Family will receive friends on Friday, December 5th at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury between the hours of 5:00 - 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in George's name to: Praxair Cancer Center, Foundation Office at Danbury Hospital, 24 Hospital Avenue, Danbury, CT 06810
or to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
