Kevin was born March 7, 1957, in Mendota to George and Elizabeth (Keough) Cassidy Sr. He attended Holy Cross school and graduated from Mendota High School in 1975. On June 13, 1981, he married the love of his life, Carol Sondgeroth, at Holy Cross Church. They welcomed three children, Amy, Melissa and Patrick, that he was very proud of.
Kevin had a long, storied career with Sapp Bros, where he retired as a Vice President after 31 years. During his time there, he managed one of their more successful locations, and set numerous sales and profit records. He represented Sapp Bros and served on the Board of Directors for the North American Truck Stop Network. Kevin also managed the company's national fleets sales team and again, represented Sapps at many conferences and trade shows. He was an industry leader in Biofuels and enjoyed discussing and presenting to various groups. One of his greatest contributions to Sapps was his leadership in mentoring and developing people.
Kevin was always active in his community; over the years belonging to the Quarterback Club, Optimist Club, Mendota Elks Club, Mendota Moose Lodge #714, Knights of Columbus Council #2090, and Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He loved sports and was a big supporter of Mendota athletics. In his younger years he coached boys' basketball at Holy Cross and refereed around the area. As his kids got older, he coached both girls in basketball at Holy Cross, and his son's little league team. Watching his kids and grandkids play was one of his greatest joys. He loved golfing with his friends and brothers and was proud to hold the Brother's Cup for several years. Through Sapps, Kevin was a big supporter of
The Muscular Dystrophy Association. For 30 years he organized and hosted a successful golf tournament benefiting the MDA.
Kevin was a kind and generous man, with his words and his actions. His family was everything to him, and his 6 grandchildren were his whole world. He was the ultimate family man who loved to spend time with all those he loved - and the circle was wide. He greeted everyone with a smile and always had a kind word, no matter how much time had passed.
He will be forever missed by his wife, Carol of Mendota; 2 daughters: Amy (Gabe) Grzeskiewicz of South Elgin, Melissa (Drew) Shinnick of Peru, son, Patrick (Emily) Cassidy of Mendota; 6 grandchildren: Kinsley Cassidy, Bennett Grzeskiewicz, Karter Cassidy, Leighton Grzeskiewicz, Kane Cassidy, Kendall Cassidy; 2 sisters: Nancy Cassidy of Mendota, Patti (Jack) Karch of Texas; 7 brothers: Jim (Barb) Cassidy of Ohio, Don (Roberta) Cassidy of Indianapolis, Bob (Chris) Cassidy of Mendota, Richard Cassidy of Aurora, Thomas (Janet) Cassidy of West Dundee, Marty (Marcia) of Arizona and Jeff (Francesca) Cassidy of Algonquin.
