Schaefer, 73 OKEECHOBEE - Charles Andrew (Chuck) Schaefer passed away Nov. 9, 2016, from injuries incurred in a boating accident. Charles was born Jun. 2, 1943, in Tell City, Ind. and was the son of the late Mildred Hagedorn Schaefer and Raymond Schaefer. He was raised in St. Meinrad, Ind. and graduated from St. Ferdinand High School. Charles began his career in Telecommunications with Indiana Bell/AT&T in Evansville, IN and retired in 1998 in Indianapolis as a Regional Manager with WorldCom (now Verizon). He served in the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborne. He retired to Lake Barkley, Cadiz, Ky. In later years, he assisted in managing his wife's family farm at Ladoga, Ind. while wintering in Okeechobee where he became a full time resident. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Pamela Woods Schaefer. He leaves behind three children, Michael Schaefer of Plainfield, Ind.; Mark Schaefer, Avon, Ind.; Susan (Brad) Toney, Avon, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Denver (Holly) Schaefer, Christina (LTJG Josh) Gordon, Chris Schaefer, Devin Schaefer, Bradanne Toney, Taylor Toney and Morgan Toney; three great-grandchildren. Charles was the oldest of nine and is survived by brothers, Randal, Tom, Marvin, Hilary, Sam, Danny and sisters Darlene Englert and Doris Hammers. Services will be held at Crossroads Church, 7209 E Co Rd 100 S, Avon, IN 46123 on Friday, Nov. 18, 2016, with viewing from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and a Celebration of Chuck's life at 1:00 p.m. Cremation will follow. Those attending are invited to join the family for a meal following the service. Arrangements are being handled by Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, IN, 317-852-4296.
