Paul Selm Obituary

Paul Selm

Florence - Paul George Selm, 61, of Florence, Kentucky, passed into eternal life on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at the St. Elizabeth Hospice Center, after a two-year battle with cancer.

He was born on September 26, 1958, the fourth of nine children to Michael James and Mary Ann Selm nee: Mucker. He is preceded in death by both parents and a sister: Mary Cecilia "Tete" (Patrick) Bankemper. Surviving are former spouses: Claire Selm nee: Jacobs and Lesley Greenwell nee: Ernst; sons: Joshua Selm and Matthew (Amanda) Selm; granddaughter Charlotte Selm; siblings: Katy (Rick) Flesch, Michael (Elaine) Selm, Thomas (Becky) Selm, Julie (Vinny) Constable, Daniel Selm, Eileen (Tom) Kunzelman, and Jenny (Jerry) Wilmes; aunts: Patricia Rich and Cornelia Hall.

Paul was a baker by trade and an artist "by birthright." He loved painting, camping, going on long drives through the countryside, hanging out with friends near Big Bone Park, and he cherished any time spent with his children and granddaughter. He was a member of the Florence Elks Lodge, and was generous to those in need, offering friendship and an open door for several homeless and disabled people in the community around him.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, November 19, 11:00 a.m. at Mary Queen of Heaven Church, Erlanger. Interment following Mass, at St. John Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell, KY. In place of visitation, a reception and celebration of Paul's life will be at Acree Hall, Immaculate Heart of Mary, Burlington, 2 - 4 p.m.

Memorial contributions in Paul's honor may be made to Florence Elks Lodge, or to Friends of Boone County Arboretum, or to Kentucky Council of the Blind. Online condolences may be expressed at www.alliancefuneralhome.net.

I prepared Paul's tax returns for a number of years and developed a friendship. We would talk about anything under the Sun. A couple of years ago he gave me a small rendition paining of the 911 Firefighters and I have in my office. I keep it front and center as a memory of 911. Now, I have it as a memory of a fallen friend. I knew Paul's time was short from the last time he came in to file his taxes, but I was hopeful that we would see another year. I am posting this late because Paul missed his appointment with me today. I searched and found his obituary. I will miss the times talking a lot about nothing. God speed to you, friend.
