Thurman Lowe Obituary

LOWE Thurman Marion Lowe, III was known to friends and family as "Rion". Only 24 years old, Rion died early Friday morning, March 6, 2009, after being struck by a pickup truck while walking home with a group of friends in Hammond, Louisiana. Rion was a communications major at Southeastern Louisiana University but was sitting out the semester and working at the WalMart Distribution Center in Robert, Louisiana. He loved playing sports and video games and just hanging around with his friends and his beloved dog, Trip. Originally from Kenner, Rion graduated from John Curtis Christian School where he played football, basketball and track. He moved to Hammond to attend Southeastern where he was a javelin thrower on the track team for one year and an outside linebacker on the football team for one year. His love of sports kept him active playing flag-football and basketball on campus. Rion was a nice, caring, friendly guy who would do anything for anyone. He was also funny - he liked to make people laugh. He has many friends who will miss him terribly. Rion is survived by his mother and father, Cindy and Thurman "Buddy" Lowe, Jr.; younger brothers Kyle and Shane; his grandparents, Joan and Ken Howes and Joann and Thurman Lowe, Sr.; 7 aunts, 1 uncle and 12 cousins. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home Chapel, 4747 Veterans Blvd., near Clearview Pkwy. in Metairie, LA on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Howes Cemetery in Ponchatoula, LA. Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and on Wednesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be sent to John Curtis Christian School, 10125 Jefferson Hwy., River Ridge, LA 70123 (504-737-4621). An online memorial and guest registry is available at www.MeM.com.

Dear Lowe family,
I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I knew Rion for a short time as well, we had classes together throughout the years. Mostly elementary. He was a wonderful person, and I know he'll be missed. Both you and him are in my thoughts.

Cindy, I do not know if you remember me, but we worked together at Xerox. I did not realize this was your son until this morning. The accident itself was just so overwelming that I did not make the connection at that time. I am so sorry for your loss. I will mention this to Lorna Edwards. She and I are working for Children's Hosptial here in N.O. You and your family are in my prayers.

Dear Rion's Family: I am so sorry to hear of your Lost. I threw javelin with Rion his first year on the team at SELU, what a great young man he was. I graduated soon after and had a daughter so I haven't seen him in years. No bond is as great as that between a parent and child. My deepest condolences are with you as you grieve.

Children are God's greatest gift to us. When a child is lost, every parent suffers. My heart absolutely breaks for your family. Although no words can ease your pain, I pray the love of your family and friends can support you through this incredibly difficult time.

To the Lowe Family,
My brother and I met Rion when we were playing at Wentwood playground. He was such a sweet, fun kid! We had the pleasure of growing up with your son and the joy of knowing him throughout his life. He was great to be around because he was really good at making you laugh! We lost contact for a while when he went to Curtis, but ironically met up again in college at SLU. He was a genuine, amazing person and we will both really miss him. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family.

I HAD TO GO AWAY

I had to go away.
I'm sorry you couldn't come with me.
But on earth is where you shall stay.
Please do not be sad.
Instead laugh and be glad.
I'm in a beautiful place, such a beautiful place.
I know you wont see me for a while.
But you will hear from me.
I will be the wind that will chill you on a hot summer day.
I will be the sun that will warm you when it's cold.
Listen to the birds sing, I will be saying, "I love you" in their song.
I know you can't touch me.
But you will feel me.
Because I will be inside of you giving you life on the days you feel like you can't go on anymore.
Please I beg of you, go on, live your life as I lived mine.
Always remember we will be together again.
I will be patiently waiting for you on that day.
When you will join me in this beautiful place.
Until then may God bless you with his almighty grace.

To the family and friends of Rion,
Treasure your memories of Rion forever. May Gods Mercy and Grace reign over you and give you comfort that can only come from Him. He will be your source. I am truly sorry for your loss, and I know words cannot begin to ease the pain, but know there are many people praying for you. Rion was my son, Chris, best friend. I am so grateful for the Lord allowing Chris to have been able to be a part of Rion's life here on this earth. May God Bless you

Rion was such a great guy, he visited us often with Amy. What a great son you have raised. He was always smiling and a joy to be around. Though he was not here long, he left a lifetime impression on everyone he met. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
