Kathleen Lenihan Obituary

Lenihan , Kathleen
Kathleen F. Lenihan, 60, died August 11, 2012 after a six-year battle with melanoma. A former public school teacher from Bridgeport, she worked long and hard to give her children the gift of education that she believed would launch them toward success in the world.
Called "Kate" by friends and family, she was born and raised in Ridgewood, New Jersey. Kate graduated from Fairfield University in 1973, among the first women to graduate from the previously all-male school. She taught at Maplewood School in Bridgeport, where she was beloved by all her students. Friends and family recall Kate as being compassionate and strong, with a ready wit.
Kate is survived by her eldest son, Vincent Roberti Jr., a facilities manager at High Watch Recovery Center in Kent; his wife, Bronwyn; a grandson, Vincent III; her younger son, Daniel, a candidate for the Democratic nomination for Congress in Connecticut's Fifth District; and her former husband, Vincent A. Roberti Sr., all of Kent.
Kate is also survived by two brothers, Brian Lenihan, of Westport, and Daniel Lenihan, of Ridgewood, NJ; four sisters, Patricia Folmar, of Winchester, VA, Christine Lenihan, of Alexandria, VA, Sheila Jordan, of Fairfax, VA, and Maureen Lenihan, of Haymarket, VA; one aunt, Prudence Oliva, of Toms River, NJ; and 13 nieces and nephews.
Most recently, Kate resided in Kent. During parts of her life, she also lived in Bridgeport, Westport and Stamford.
Over the course of her last year, Kate enjoyed spending good times with her sons, and especially her young grandson, Vincent, at the family home in Kent. She continued to provide joy and inspiration in the lives of her children and grandson, even as she battled stage four melanoma.
Kate is predeceased by her father, Dr. Thomas F. X. Lenihan, a pediatrician, and her mother, Catherine Joan Lenihan, who resided in Ridgewood, New Jersey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, August 16, 1:00 p.m at St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church in Saddle River, New Jersey. Burial will follow in Valleau Cemetery, Ridgewood, New Jersey.
Respects may be paid at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, Connecticut on Wednesday, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center P.O. Box 27106 New York, NY 10087-7106 http://www.mskcc.org/giving

To the family,
I met "Kathy" at Fairfield University so many years ago...became great friends during that wonderful time and after graduation attended each other's wedding...Became an "email pal" of sorts the past several years and thoroughly enjoyed her updates. Thoughout her difficult times, her spirit was her strength...and I too will miss her along with all of you.

Kathy, my friend, be at eternal peace,
