Ninon Ballantyne Towns Fatzer

Ninon Fatzer Obituary

FATZER--Ninon Ballantyne Towns, 84, of New York City, died April 28, 2008 after a courageous battle with both Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Diseases. Born in New York City in 1923 to Day Masset Ballantyne and Joseph Earl Ballantyne, she soon moved with her family to Scarsdale, NY. She excelled in high school and was elected valedictorian of her graduating class. She attended Barnard College, then met and married Edward Ros Towns of New York City and had her loving daughter Victoria Towns. Ninon went on to a shining career in the fashion industry, eventually landing at Milliken as their Eastern Regional Director and Vice President. She left Milliken to work as Administrative Assistant to the President of Standard & Poors, where she stayed happily until age 71. In the meantime she met and married the love of her life, Jean-Pierre Fatzer. She also built upon the antique fan collection she had inherited from her mother, and become so knowledgeable about the subject of antique and vintage fans that she was eventually elected President of FANA, the international association of fan collectors. She is survived by her loving daughter Victoria Towns, her loving son-in-law Alan Kupferberg and her very loving grandson Joel Kupferberg. Memorial services will be held at Gramercy Park Memorial Chapel, 353 2nd Ave. (at 20th St.), NYC, Thursday May 8, 2008 at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers donations to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America and/or The Parkinson's Disease Foundation in her name would be appreciated.

Dear Ninon, you were a gracious, elegant, and charming lady, generous in showing me your fans. I enjoyed my dinners with you and JP over the years and came to "know" your daughter and grandson during those happy times. My condolences to Vicki and her family.

Ninon was a great fan friend when I lived in New York City. I will forever remember her as a great fan hostess, showing her collection while being so stylishly entertaining. She always inquired about my family and my life. A charming lady, now at peace.

My wife and I knew Ninon (and subsequently JP) through the Fan Association and became friends independently of that, enjoying their company on many occasions and in many venues over the years. They are both sorely missed.
