Carah Howell Obituary

Carah Howell

June 1, 1987 - February 7, 2022

Carah Howell, age 34, of Covington, LA, passed away Monday, February 7, 2022. She was born and raised in Auburn, AL. She played soccer from an early age, and all through high school, with her dad being the biggest cheerleader. She also loved playing the piano. Her first job at age 14 was playing the piano for Sunday services at Loachapoka United Methodist Church. She was sympathetic to all animals, especially dogs. Her first pet was a shelter dog, and her current fur baby, Luna, was rescued from a dumpster. She immersed herself in movies, was an avid reader, excelled at writing, was artistically creative, cooked gourmet-style meals, and enjoyed horseback riding with her mother. She also loved to travel, spending a semester in Mexico, and touring Spain one summer. Carah loved the outdoors and nature. She experienced snorkeling with manatees, skiing in Vermont, and hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains. A piano piece by that name that she performed in a recital would be her magnus opus. She was so patient, kind, respectful, had a wicked sense of humor, and of course always cheered for the Auburn Tigers.

Carah graduated from Auburn High School in 2005. She then attended Auburn University, was very active in the Omega Phi Alpha National Service Sorority and graduated in 2009 with a BA in Spanish. She next enrolled at Southern Union State Community College, completing the Surgical Technology/Technologist program in 2010. Carah met the love of her life, Michael Howell while attending Auburn University. They moved to Harahan, LA, where they married on May 22, 2010. Carah worked for the Ochsner Health System as a surgical technologist for over a year and became a Certified Surgical Technologist. Her passion for patient care and improving outcomes motivated her to attend Delgado Community College, obtaining an Associate Degree in Registered Nursing in 2013. She loved practicing nursing and was versatile, energetic, compassionate, and empathetic across many patient care disciplines.

Carah leaves behind numerous loving, supportive friends, and relatives to cherish her memory and of a talented life ended too soon. Among those are her parents, Jim and Lila Wright of Auburn, AL, her brother Anson Wright (Nikki) of Bluffton, SC, maternal grandmother Lorraine Wright Seeby of Myrtle Beach, SC, beloved husband Michael Howell of Covington, LA, precious children Gavin, Ian, and Conner, and in-laws Melissa and Jeff Howell of Harahan, LA. A memorial service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church of River Ridge, Louisiana where Carah was an active member at a later date. Another celebration of her life will be held later in Auburn at a date not yet determined. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Crossroads Food Pantry, Inc. 176 Old Crossroads West, Poplarville, MS 39470. I just heard of Carah's passing now. When we were children Carah stood up for me, a little Muslim girl in Alabama post 9-11, when I was being bullied. Not because she was told that was the right thing, or she knew to be politically correct, but because she was a truly decent person with a strong, beautiful moral compass. I am so sorry to hear of this tragic loss. Love you always Carah.

Carah was my scrub tech and later nurse at the Ochsner. I have many great memories of her as she was such a wonderful person. I have several playlists that she made for me on my iTunes account and true to her whimsical nature she called them Carah´s canorous caboodle one, two and three.

Carah was unfailingly kind and compassionate, with a joyous demeanor that was as endearing as it was infectious. It was impossible to be in a bad mood when you worked with her! She always spoke with love and affection for her boys, especially Mike. My heart aches for you all.

Carah, my heart aches for your leaving us - my beautiful granddaughter I loved
from the day I held a new baby in my arms to that breezy young adult, a pianist whose fingers would fly over the keys so that masters lived again, enjoying playing for her grandmother.
