Clara MacArthur Obituary

Clara May Warren MacArthur, 88, went to be with her Savior on December 17, 2008. She was born on February 21, 1920 in Fort Towson, Oklahoma to John P. Warren and Clara (May) Warren. Her early years were spent in Fort Towson, McAlester, and Hugo. She and her mother moved to Oklahoma City in 1934 after the death of her father. After graduating from Central High School in 1938, she attended business school. Clara May began her career as a secretary at Tinker Field where she met Captain John R. (Jack) MacArthur. They were married in Oklahoma City on February 15, 1947. He preceded her in death in 1992. She worked as a secretary for Rehabilitative Services of the State of Oklahoma for 15 years. But her greatest career was as a loving wife and mother. As Proverbs says, "her children arise and call her blessed". Besides her family, she had a love for people that led her to volunteer her time at Scope Ministries and Our Lord's Community Church of which she and Jack were founding members. She was a born caregiver and served in that role for many among her family and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John B. Warren. She is survived by daughter Gena Ann Hellman and husband Gary of Stillwater, son Kip MacArthur and wife Diane of Yukon, and son John W. MacArthur and wife Rebecca of Arlington, TX. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Garrett J. Hellman of Austin, TX, Shawn D. Hellman of Cambridge, MA, Spencer T. Hellman and wife Jenny of Tulsa, Scott Emerson and wife Stacy of Ada, Amanda M. Wilson and husband Micah of Albuquerque, NM, Tina D. MacArthur of Stillwater, John R. Mac- Arthur and wife Jennie R. of Arlington, TX, and Jennifer R. MacArthur of Oklahoma City, and four great-grandchildren: Mady Emerson, Jack MacArthur Emerson, Kaley Donley, and Ayden Donley. She also leaves behind a brother James P. Warren, nephews Brad Warren and Barry Warren, and a niece Shannon Warren Edwards. Her memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at Our Lord's Community Church, 11400 N. Portland, Oklahoma City, OK 73120. A private family burial service will be held earlier in the day. Visitation: the family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday, December 19th at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Donations may be made in her name to Mission to Internationals, Inc., P.O. Box 1867, Stillwater, OK 74076 or Our Lord's Community Church, or Odyssey House (Hospice), 13920 Quailbrook Dr., Oklahoma City, OK 73134.

Clara May was a dear and special person. She was a good friend to my grandmother, Christine Hull, and helped care for her when she became ill until she passed last year. All of Christine's family live out of the state and we were all so very grateful of everthing Clara May did to help Christine and us during her illness. Clara May was certainly a blessed and caring woman. She will be missed.

I had the pleasure of working with Jack and Clara May at Scope Ministries. After Jack's passing Clara May continued helping at Scope. She became a very special friend to me.
Through the years we have e-mailed back and forth several times a month. She was such a very special person.
I will miss her friendship so much but I am so glad she is with her love, Jack and Jesus.
With sympathy,

Clara May was a long time family friend and a second mother to me while growing up in Oklahoma City. I will always remember and miss the apple pies she baked for me as a kid. Gena Ann, Kip and John where blessed with a fantastic mother. I am glad she and Jack are together again.
