Jimette Rau Obituary

RAU-Jimette Ann, formerly of Omaha, Nebraska, died unexpectedly at her home in Erie, Colorado, on July 3, 2007. She was 56. She was born Jimette Ann Elliott in Watertown, South Dakota, to James and Darlene Elliott. She graduated from Ralston High School. On August 7, 1968, she married Martin Rau in Fremont, Nebraska. Three sons were born to this marriage, Christopher, Curtis, and Chad Rau. While raising her young family, Jimette returned to school and earned her degree as a registered nurse, specializing in the field of surgical nursing. She was a skilled and well-regarded surgical nurse at Bergan Mercy Hospital for the majority of her professional career. Jimette was a loving wife and mother, and relished her role as "Gaga" to four granddaughters. She was energetic and fun, planning her annual "No Parents Week" for her grandchildren for months in advance. She enjoyed mountain motorcycle rides with her husband and impromptu barbeques with family, neighbors, and friends. Jimette is survived by her husband, Martin Rau, of Erie; her sons and daughter-in-laws, Christopher and Cheryl Rau of Papillion, Nebraska; Curtis and Rachel Rau of Omaha, Nebraska, and Chad and Linda Rau, of Omaha, Nebraska, and four granddaughters, Taylor, Alexandria, Katelyn, and Kiley Rau. She was delighted to be expecting her fifth granddaughter in the fall of 2007. In addition, she is survived by her mother and step-father, Darlene and Leonard Clary of Gretna, Nebraska; and a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and John Henry of Overland Park, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her father. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to Special Olympics Nebraska, 8801 F Street in Omaha, Nebraska 68127.

Dear Buz and family

We were shocked and very sad when we, Jimette's familiy in Norway, received the message about her death. She was the sweetest person and we enjoyed so much seeing her on our family reunions. Our thoughts go to you all from the Gihbsson family in Norway.

Little did I know that when I lent a can-opener to a woman on my front porch seven years ago that a wonderful friendship would be born. A day doesn't go by that I remember yet another story of what a generous person she was. Libby was reminding me today of a time a few months ago when I was battling a cold. Jimette arrived with a bag full of Vicks and other medicines to get me through the night more comfortably. She was like that...always anticipating what might be needed and making it happen. I will miss her very much.

Our sincerest condolences to you all...Marty, Christopher, Curt, Chad, Jean, Darlene and Len, and all your families. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help!

We met Jimmette when we moved into her neighborhood. I enjoyed playing Bunco with Jimmette and had a great time doing her Christmas cards. She was a wonderful neighbor, and I will miss seeing her walking around the lake. Harold has fond memories of Jimmette as they bottled home brew for Andrea's party. She will be missed greatly in our neighborhood.

God Bless,

Uncle Buzz, Chris, Curt and Chad,

I and so saddened by Aunt Jimmette's death. My first memory of her when I met her when I was 10 years old was how pretty and kind she was to me. I am glad that I had the opportunity to live close to you all during my college years. I have fond memories of family gatherings and baby sitting the boys then. I love you all,
Connie

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Rau family. I spent a lot of time in the home of the Rau's growing up as a kid. Jimette was like a 2nd mother to me. She touched a lot of lives during her short time on this earth, and she will be deeply missed by many.
