I had only the pleasure of talking with Ed on many an IBM call for work. On a couple of occasions he and I were the first on the call, and I chatted with him personally. From that little interaction, I know that Ed was an honest, forthcoming person happy to share his life's experiences. I am so sorry for your loss.

Some good words from the old testament for the Kahan family.

The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name' sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: For thou art with me;
Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies;
Thou annointest my head with oil; My cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:
a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.
What does the worker gain from his toil?
I have seen the burden God has laid on men.
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live.
That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil--this is the gift of God.
I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that men will revere him.

It is indeed very sad to hear of Ed's passing. I remember him so active only a few months ago while he was still with ILSL.

The ILSL team was extremely fortunate to have Ed for 2 years working with us. When Ed came to our offices in Jerusalem and started speaking with each of us in perfect Hebrew, we were instantly impressed with his warm and caring personality. He was always ready to contribute his precious time, not only to learn about our projects, but also to get acquainted with each and every person in the Lab. During his residency at ILSL, Ed dedicated a lot of time to promote our products and team, and gave us the tools we needed to understand how to find our way in the Big IBM.

Working with him was a very positive and pleasant experience for all of us.

My thoughts are with his family at their great loss.

Ed will be missed greatly, but his memory and inspiration will continue to guide us for times to come.

We will miss Ed so very much! To his family, our sincerest thanks for sharing such a marvelous guy with those of us at IBM. He did such good works and made us all be much better than we had any clue we could be.

My grandmother published many poems. She wrote a special one, quite short, for our family when my father passed away. I drew strength from it then, so I share it here in hopes it might give strength to others too.

......... Reaching Wings.......
"I heard wild geese fly overhead,
With cries that stirred the night
Or were they words too keen for death
Wing-stretching for the flight?

The day you died, my rebel heart
Was fixed on bitter things.
For I'd forgot, until that flight
That thoughts have reaching wings"

Really saddened to hear this sad news. I was surprised to hear the Ed was sick while seeing him so full of life only few months ago. Hoped that Ed will be able to overcome the disease or at least be able to live with it.

We at the IBM Israel lab really felt and enjoyed Ed being with us. The Israel lab is remote and having someone like Ed made us to feel much more connected to the bigger IBM, not to speak of having Ed as a person with his natural warmth and natural kindness.

It has been a very difficult year for you. Really hope that you will not know sorrow from now on.

I will remember him.
