Carol KIDD Obituary

KIDD, Carol Ann Carol passed away peacefully on May 20, 2014 at the age of 56, after a brief illness. She is survived by her partner, Cindy Springer, sisters Anita (Richard Spencer), Irene (the late Garry Densmore), Lisa (Marvin Bouvette), Roberta (Brad Adams), brother Lyle Kidd (Nancy Craig), nieces Denise and Samantha, and nephews Cory, Don and Shaun. She was predeceased by her parents, Lyle and Denise Kidd and her long time partner, Carroll Merwin. Carol grew up in Port Alberni, attending Gill and Smith Memorial schools before starting work at Woodwards Department store at age 17. From there she worked at the plywood mill until its closure, then as a custodian for various establishments around Port Alberni. She was a member of the IWA and Alberni Legion. Her lifelong passions included camping, listening to and playing Anne Murray songs on her guitar, and taking trips to Nova Scotia and Mexico. She loved taking long, fast walks with her beloved miniature chihuahuas Harrison, Eddie and Merlin, before their untimely deaths caused by short legs and exhaustion. Carol was a kind soul who was there when you needed her. From dropping off a lovingly prepared care package of her gourmet cooking or home canning, to chopping wood or shovelling snow for a friend in need, she was always ready, willing and able to lend a helping hand. Please join us for a celebration of her life on Friday, May 23rd, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Turtle Beach Café, Blue Marlin Hotel (formerly The Arlington) on Johnson Rd in Port Alberni. Dress code is semi-formal. Kidding!! Please wear your best shorts and brightest t-shirt. We'd like to sincerely thank all the staff at WCGH, the ICU doctors and nurses, palliative staff Jayne, Cindy, Grace and student nurse Sydney. Sorry that space here doesn't allow us to name everyone, but please know that you are truly credits to your professions and that your kindness and compassion are indelibly etched in our memories. "So little snowbird take me with you when you go, to that land of gentle breezes where the peaceful waters flow"

I am deeply saddened by the death of my lovely friend. Carol and I were inseparable in our teen years, the best of friends. We made cookies and forgot the flour! Her mother laughed at us! We sang Anne Murray songs at the top of our lungs, sun tanned, and laughed so hard we cried. Carol made such an impression on my life and has always been that person who was very special, the kind of person one never forgets. It was always her enthusiasm and positive outlook, her encouragement that stands out. She would remember: "anytime you want to just bugger off". Well I guess she did. My sympathies to all her family. With love, being remembered by Sherri Heine and Randy Dahlquist

Thank you for the lovely tributes. The memorial service yesterday was awesome!. Carol would have enthusiastically approved. The owners and staff at The Blue Marlin went above and beyond, organizing catering and even a live band to play. We rocked the afternoon away in the warm sunshine. Andrew Schmidt played several Anne Murray tributes and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. And then out came the water guns. All guests were given a pansy to take home and plant in memory of Carol. My sister would have loved it. Thanks everyone.
