1921 - 2019

James H. Michener, ""Harry"" 98, of Emerson, NJ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 20, 2019, at Frey Village Assisted Living in Middletown, PA. Born in Corona, NY, on January 15, 1921, the son of the late James H. and Agnes (Turner) Michener; and preceded in death by his wife, Betty Alice (Plant) Michener in 1997. Harry is survived by his two children: son, Steven Walter Michener and wife Carol of Middletown, NY; daughter, Christine (Michener) Rankow and husband Dr. Henry Rankow of Harrisburg, PA; three grandsons: Dr. Justin Michener, wife Dr Meeta Michener of Denver, CO, Alex Rankow, wife Heather, of Truckee, CA and Matthew Rankow of New York, NY; one granddaughter, Christie (Michener) Boydston, husband Billy of Washingtonville, NY; one brother, William Michener, wife, Marion, Smithtown, NY; and 8 great-grandchildren. Harry, a proud veteran served in the Army Air Forces during WWII, going through Aviation Cadet School and becoming an Instructor Pilot. For 40 years he was a trouble shooter for Eastman Kodak Company with his territory throughout the Tri-State area. He was a member and served on the vestry of Grace Episcopal Church of Westwood, NJ, for many decades. He led a very active life, loving tennis, golf and going to the gym into his late eighties. His interests and hobbies were woodworking, reading, painting and collecting coins. He loved going to Atlantic City and so enjoyed teaching all his grandchildren to play craps. A Memorial Service and Entombment will be at the Garden of Memories, Washington Twp., NJ on Monday, February 4th at 11:30 am.
