Cynthia Scheurich Obituary

Cynthia F. Scheurich

Virginia Beach - Cynthia Frye Scheurich of Virginia Beach, 60 years of age, passed away June 24, 2018 at Princess Anne Hospital after a characteristically scrappy battle with leukemia.

Cindy was born and grew up in Irwin, PA, where she learned to love playing volleyball. She was a member of her high school's first state championship team and continued playing at the University of Pittsburgh, graduating in 1980. Since 1985, her career as a PHL-based flight attendant allowed her frequent opportunities to haul many pounds of goodies from the great cities of the world to everyone she knew. The same year, she had her first run-in, but not her last, with Thomas Scheurich Jr. They were married in 1987, and together they raised their children, Thomas Scheurich III of Richmond and Sarah Scheurich of Virginia Beach, videoed every sports game and concert, heckled each other through dozens of home improvement projects, took trips, coached rec-league volleyball, and played Pickleball for an action-packed 30 years of marriage.

She was predeceased by her brother Charles Frye III. She is survived by, along with her husband, son, and daughter, her parents, Gerlinde Frye and Charles Frye Jr, her sister Mitzi (Jim) Hall, and nieces and nephews Ryan Davis (Sara), Alex Hall, and Emily and Jacob Frye, all from Western Pennsylvania.

A celebration of Cindy's life will be held on 30 June 2018 on the patio at the Wyndham Hotel from 7:00 to 9:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (visit https://donate.lls.org/).

I heard the sad news about Cindy from another flight attendant. I will miss her sense of humor on those long flights to Germany. May good memories bring comfort at this time. Your Philly crewmates.

Dear Tom, Tommy and Sara,
I flew with Cindy many times when I was based in PHL. I loved flying with her, she was so much fun to be around and was always willing to go see or do something fun and different. And to my surprise, when I just gave birth to my second son, I was walking down the hall at VA Beach General and there was Cindy with her bathrobe on. Just like me!
We both had given birth to sons, one day apart! It was so exciting to see her outside of work, and especially at the hospital!!
Over the years we would run in to each other, commuting to work, asking about our kids! And then when Tommy and my Jeremy went to middle school, we found out that they both were at Kemps Landing Magnet School, so I would see her at events to catch up.
Cindy was a person you would never forgot, intelligence, fun loving, really into her family, and always stood up to do the right thing.
I want to extend my sincere condolences to Tom, Sarah & Tommy. Alexa Landsheft

Correcting my earlier post/message to say - Life isn't fair. This was way too soon for Cindy to not be here on earth. Tonight's full moon gave me a smile knowing that she is letting us know to look up.

My Dad, Bill Novajosky and I are heartbroken for you. Cindy was a person so full of life that this just doesn't seem possible. She was a perfect 'partner in crime' with Tom and a great mom. This is a time to say Life definitely is fair. Heart to heart hugs to you. -- Lisa Novajosky Smith
