Shirley Braker Obituary

MORTON - Shirley Darlene Braker, 74, of Morton passed away at 5:25 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born Sept. 30, 1936, in Allentown, Ill., to Clarence F. and Helen (Springer) Schmidgall. She married Joe Joshua Braker on Sept. 27, 1959, in Morton. He survives.

Also surviving are her children, Bradley (Debra) Braker, Brent (Becky) Braker, Todd (Wendy) Braker, Bethany (Tim) Leman and Tim (Rachel) Braker, all of Morton; 19 grandchildren, Ryan, Laura, Lacey, Lynnae, Stephanie, Chad, Austin, Whitney, Ashley, Seth, Nathaniel, Clinton, Michael, TJ, Nicole, Victoria, Kyle, Reagan and Avery; her mother, Helen Schmidgall of Morton; and two brothers, Ken (Sandra) Schmidgall of Peoria and Jack (Elaine) Schmidgall of Morton.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Shirley was a member of Morton Apostolic Christian Church, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2011, with church ministers officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 25, at the Apostolic Christian Fellowship Hall, 2201 Veterans Road, Morton, and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the Morton Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery.

Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton is handling arrangements.

She will be remembered as a Godly woman, a loving and faithful wife, mother and grandmother. Her joy was being with her precious family, church and friends. She was a blessing to all who knew her.

The family would like to thank the many friends and church family who helped with countless prayers and acts of love during this difficult time as well as Methodist Hospice and Nurses Caring For People for their compassion and tender care.

Memorials may be made to the Morton Apostolic Christian Church New Building Fund or to the Rural Gospel Medical Mission of India.
