Joel Remaley

1939 - 2017

Joel A. Remaley, age 77, of Hobart, passed away peacefully Friday, March 10, 2017. Joel was a 1957 Hobart graduate, owner and publisher of the Hobart Gazette and Herald News Group with a string of 15 weekly's from 1975-1989. He purchased the Country Lounge Restaurant in Hobart in 1991 and sold it in 2011. He served on the Board of Directors for HFS Bank, YMCA and Main Source Bank in Hobart, and was a member of the HHAC. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Deana; four sons, Joe (Linda) Bonus, Rick Remaley, Jeffrey (Patty) Remaley and Jeffery(Kathryn) Remaley; daughter, Jill Remaley (Bobby Riggsby) ; six grandchildren, Janelle Bonus, Jessica Bonus, Joel (Gabrielle) Remaley, Devon Remaley, Connor Remaley and Kalista Kozhin; four great-grandchildren, Gavin Bonus, Alexis and Gianna Burgos and Jayden Remaley. Joel loved adventure; he hunted in Africa, fished in Argentina and Alaska. He was an avid fly fisherman always in pursuit of the perfect trout stream. He was a voracious reader and crossword puzzle worker. Joel dearly loved his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Scott A. Remaley; parents, Donald E. and Sally (nee Larsen) Remaley. In lieu of flowers donations to Salvation Army, 1351 West 11th Ave, Gary, Indiana 46408. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana 46342. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Hobart.
