POUGHKEEPSIE - Dolores Theresa (Vidunas) Haight, 85, died peacefully on Sunday, November 16, at her home in Poughkeepsie, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Kingston, PA, she was the daughter of Louis and Frances Vidunas. She graduated fromn Kingston High School, Kingston PA, and from Mount Sinai Hospital School of Nursing, New York City, in 1951with her RN. Later she married Charles Joseph Haight on Valentines Day in 1953 and was married for 27 years until his death in 1980.

Dolores is survived by her four daughters: Karen Hughes and her husband Steve; Patricia Haight and her fiance Rahul Mehta; Ellen McCutcheon and her husband Peter; and Peggy Milone and her husband Ralph. She was predeceased by her infant son, Thomas. She has nine grandchildren: Marshall Hughes and his wife Megan; Gabe Hughes; Sarah, Collin, Ethan and Aaron Milone; and Charlie, Mary and Dillon McCutcheon. Dolores' brothers and sisters Louis Vidunas and his wife Agnes, suster Bernadett Dyczewski and her husband Joe, sister Joan Parsons whose husband Ralph is deceased,, brother Jim Vidunas, sister Kathleen Bozek and her husband Tom, brother Eugene "Wimpie" Vidunas (deceased) and his wife Helen. Dolores is also survived by her sister-in-law, Marion Haight who was married to Herbie Haight (deceased) and many nieces and nephews.

Dolores worked at Vassar Brothers Hospital, Circle 2, as a Registered Nurse, Vassar Warner Home and the Hypertension Clinic. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader and a Summer Camp Nurse at Girl Scout Camp Sacajawea. She volunteered as a CCD Teacher with St Mary's Religious Ed Program and with the National Park Service at Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park NY. Dolores was also a member of MENSA and an avid reader.

Dolores is known as Dee Dee to her grandchildren. Her love of travel, the beach, reading, family get-togethers and her strong faith have created lasting and special memories for her nine grandchildren.

After being widowed at the young age of fifty, she gracefully continued her role as mother, daughter, grandmother and friend. We hope to follow her example.

The family would like to thank Dee's doctors, Lawrence Solomon and Amelia Martinko, the staff at the Coumadin Clinic, especially Colleeen, Loraine, Patty, Crystal and Wanda, the Blue Team of Dutchess County Hospice, especially Linda Nichols , music therapists Ethan and Liz, and nurse Tim Kapeluck. A very special thank you to Marie Knapp and Mary Scribner who loved and helped care for our Mom. Thank you also to Meals on Wheels for their cheerful and welcoming service.

Because of her love of reading and the city of Poughkeepsie, the family suggests donations to the Adriance Memorial Library.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 19, 2014, 4-7 PM at the Wm. G. Miller & Son F.H., Inc., 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10 AM in St. Mary's Church, 231 Church St., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Peter's Cemetery.
