David "Bill" William Tuck

October 24, 1937 - May 22, 2023

David "Bill" William Tuck was born on October 24, 1937, and was the youngest of the three children of the late Edgar and Ora Tuck. He grew up in the Hightop Community in Montgomery County and attended Blacksburg High School where he starred in track and football, and his athletic skills opened the door for him to be the first in his family to attend college at Concord College. After attending Concord, he returned to Blacksburg and started his entrepreneurial life by opening a mobile home lot which was the starting point of his long career.

In 1965, he started dating Trula Crawford Cumbo, a widow with three young children. Bill and Trula married in September 1966, giving Bill an instant family that he loved. They added to the family with the birth of two more children over the years. They were married 54 years until Trula's passing in 2021, and it was a partnership which led to personal and financial success.

In 2020, Bill was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) but continued to work six days a week until late 2022. In addition to his parents and his wife, Trula, Bill was preceded in death by his sister Betty Tuck Crawford. He is survived by his sister, Geneva Tuck Davis; his children, Steven Cumbo (Araceli), Sherry Kendall Cumbo Blosser (Michael), Phillip Cumbo, Christopher Tuck (Susan) and Craig Tuck (Greta); his 13 beloved grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Bill considered himself fortunate to have Alisa Cunningham in his life, a long-term employee who he thought of as family; and his close friends Valerie Ramey, Phillip Nolan, Jeannie Stosser, George Link, Julie Willard, Eddie Carter and many more. Finally, the family wishes to express our sincere appreciation to Dr. Imre Noth and nurse Cathy Brown with UVA Medical Center, who were amazing in providing care and insight in dealing with IPF, and to his nurses with Gentiva Hospice.

Funeral services will be held at the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel in Blacksburg on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at 1 p.m. with Dr. N.L. Bishop officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery.
