Henry Forkner Obituary
Forkner, Henry Robert "Hank", 100, of Mechanicsville Va, formerly of Blacksburg Va, passed away on August 18, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Granville Blaine Forkner and Annie Stelle Griffin, his wife, Jean Reid Forkner and a granddaughter, Mary Elisabeth Forkner Campbell. He is survived by his children, Jan Brammer (Kirk), Jay Forkner, Steve Forkner (Donna), and Annie Duda (Rob); nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was a WWII Army Veteran and an Emeritus Faculty, Associate Professor, Virginia Tech, 1948-1988, Metal and Ceramic Engineering. Hank was a loyal and enthusiastic Hokie sports fan, He kept play-by-play statistics for Hokie football in the press box at Lane Stadium as well as for Blacksburg High School. He also announced at the Hokie womens' basketball games. Some of his hobbies included golf, bridge, crossword puzzles, needlepoint, bowling and telling jokes. Hank was a member of Blacksburg Country Club, Blacksburg Lions Club, and Blacksburg Baptist Church, where he taught youth Sunday School and was part of a dynamic youth program participating in mission trips to other states. The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Heritage Green Assisted Living and Suncrest Hospice for their loving and wonderful care. A celebration of Hank's life will be held in Blacksburg Va at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Blacksburg Breakfast Lions Club, c/o Charles Harris, 1955 Bear Springs Rd.
