Walter MEDDING Obituary

The United States and our family lost one of its heroes and patriots with the passing of our father, Walter S. Medding, of Fredericksburg, Va., on Friday, June 21, 2013, at the age of 91. Mr. Medding was the recipient of seven battle campaign ribbons and two bronze stars, among his many decorations for his service in World War II and Korea. He was a proud civil engineer, having been in the Virginia Tech Class of 1944 (Company E). He also held a master's degree in Civil Engineer from VPI&SU. As a combat engineer, he was frequently at the "tip of the spear."
Mr. Medding was preceded in death by his wife, Patty, and his parents, Walter Lyman and Elizabeth.
He is survived by his children, Jean McLean, of Helena, Mont., Mauri Medding, of Joshua Tree, Calif. and Blake Medding, of Roanoke, Va.; and has numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Aquia Episcopal Church, Stafford, Va., where he had been a member for many years. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
Mr. Medding's children would like to thank his long time friend Kevin Griffin, Comfort Keepers, and the staff of Bowling Green Healthcare Center for their compassionate care.
