Stella Delores (Caine) Sumner, age 89, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 6:28 p.m. on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at St. Vincent Hospital – Evansville.
Stella was born March 22, 1929, in Henderson, KY, to the late Herbert Caine & Anna Mae (McCormick) Caine. She graduated from Bosse High School in 1947. Stella was a homemaker and pastor's wife. She and her late husband, Johnny founded the Free Pentecostal Church of Evansville in the early 1960s. Stella loved spending time with her family and grandkids, and she loved attending church.
She is survived by her daughter, Johanna Sue Damme (Phillip); sisters, Bertha Haire and Rosetta Smith; brother, Dallas Caine; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband of 47 years, Johnny S. Sumner, who passed away in 1995; and daughters, Anna Sue Krohn and Grace Darlene Summers.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Theresa Little for caring for Stella for the past few weeks.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Free Pentecostal Church of Evansville, 3201 Fickas Road with Pastor Tommy McCormick and other associate pastors officiating. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Saturday, September 29, 2018 at BOONE FUNERAL HOME EAST CHAPEL – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville and from 9:30 a.m. until service time, Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Free Pentecostal Church of Evansville.

I grew up in Free Pentecostal Church. Sister Stella was a great support to my mother and our family. My heart goes out to all her family and church family. I know she will be greatly missed.

So sorry for your loss. She fought her fight and now she's won her victory. How can we not be happy for her. We cry for ourself. She's in a far better place than us. I know how hard it is to give them up. I still cry for my mom and pop. May the lord be with you thru all of this. Sorry we can't be there, but our prayers are with you.
