Sacramento, California - Todd Schmidt "Schmidty" died peacefully at his mother's home in Lincoln, Ca. on January 17th. Todd fought a courageous three and one half year battle with a rare form of cancer.
Todd was born in Oakland California and attended elementary and high school in Moraga, California. He enjoyed playing baseball in high school. Many of those teammates and childhood friends remain in his life today. Upon graduation, he enrolled at Chico State (Ca) University, where he graduated with a BA degree in History. At Chico, he received several awards for historical research projects. Later he received his paralegal certificate from MTI in Sacramento, Ca. as he went on to an 18 year career in law as a paralegal. Todd greatly enjoyed his work and the many challenges it presented.
Todd's interests were many and varied. He loved sports, especially baseball and was a huge fan of the Oakland A's. He enjoyed the arts, having eclectic tastes in art and music. Live concerts were s favorite venue with friends. Snow skiing was a sport of choice in the winter months. Todd liked relaxing with fishing rod in hand at Donner lake with his Dad and little son, Sterling. Donner Lake was his nirvana where he found peace and tranquility. Todd also enjoyed cooking and was proud of his skills on the barbeque.
Todd leaves behind his wife Samantha of nine years and a seven year old son, Sterling. Also mother, Lana Schmidt, father, Bill Schmidt, stepmother, JoAnn Schmidt, stepsister Kim Lundgren (Eric), stepbrother Justin Watson and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Todd loved being around family always showing a deep appreciation and affection. Todd also leaves many close and loyal friends behind who he considered his extended family. He spoke often of the love and thankfulness that he had for his many friends.
Todd's wishes were to be cremated with his ashes spread over Donner Lake. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time to memorialize the wonderful person we loved and is now continuing his life's journey with our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Todd was so grateful for the professional and soulful care he received at the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center. A memorial fund has been established and donations may be made to the Todd Schmidt Fund for Cancer Research. Your gift to the fund will support basic or transitional research to study the mechanisms and biomarkers of cancer development, growth and metastasis. A preference is given to research projects related to mucinous carcinomas and other related diseases.
