Roger Perry Obituary

1943 ~ 2016
Roger Scott Perry was born November 22, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah and died on November 13, 2016 of a stroke incident to pancreatic cancer. He was the second of four sons of Frederick James and Hazel Scott Perry.
In 1962 Roger graduated from East High School, then attended the University of Utah for a year before serving in the Southern Australian Mission from 1963 to 1965 (McConkie/Tanner). In 1973 he completed a total of nine years of academic study at the U of U, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry, a Ph. D. in pharmacology and a Medical Doctor degree.
On June 24, 1969, during medical school, Roger married Carolyn Folsom Cowley. They had 3 children, Cachet, Ammon and Jarom. Later Roger and Carolyn divorced in September of 1985.
After working two years as a physician in an emergency department in northern Michigan, Roger returned to work in emergency departments along the Wasatch Front. On August 7, 1987, Roger married Christine Evans and they were subsequently sealed in the temple in 1991.
In 2014 the finding of pancreatic cancer precipitated his retirement from clinical medicine. In total, Roger spent 40 years working full time in emergency departments, treating over 200,000 emergency patients.
In addition to his clinical work, Roger was very active in many administrative positions, did volunteer teaching in the medical school and authored several chapters in medical procedure coding books.
Recreationally, Roger participated in baseball, basketball, softball, tennis, hiking, camping, fishing, swimming, snorkeling, skiing and running. Starting with his first marathon at age 55, he completed 20 marathons, including Boston, Maui and New York.
A description of Roger would be incomplete without mentioning the extensive travel, which he and his forever sweetheart Chris, did during their 29 years of marriage. Their travels included all seven continents, numerous islands, as well as sailing six of the seven seas. However, Roger's favorite was always the Hawaiian Islands.
Roger is survived by his wife, Chris; daughter, Cachet (Greg) Bean; son, Ammon (a.k.a. Elizabeth Dewier); son, Jarom (Michelle); step-daughter, Stephanie (Jason) Mounteer; step-daughter, Leisa (Marissa) Smith; step-son, Jeff (Kara) Fuhriman; brothers, F. Stephen (Kay), J. Joseph (Meredith) and Von R. (Sue) and 12 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Cameo Park Ward, 8945 South 1700 East with a viewing from 9:30-10:30 am. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, November 16, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South). Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. You will be missed Roger. Working many years of weekend nights in the ER with you were never dull or boring. We always knew that whatever came through the doors and whatever hit the fan, we were lucky to have you in our corner. The team was complete with a strong leader at the helm.

God Speed Roger and God Bless the rest of the Perry Family.
