On Saturday February 20, 2021, an angel was called to Heaven surrounded by her loving family. After a valiant battle, Elsa Olga Spring (Sepulveda), 72, passed away due to complications from surgery.
Born on October 4, 1948 in Laredo, TX, Elsa graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1967 and continued on to complete her studies at the Santa Rosa School of Nursing in 1968. Elsa went on to become a preschool teacher, and her huge heart shone brightly through her work where she always treated every child like they were her own. Her love for children carried on throughout her entire life as she spent every day taking care of her grandchildren long after she had retired.
On April 12, 1969, Elsa married the love of her life, Judson, and followed him as his service with the Air Force took them all the way to Spain. Upon his discharge, Elsa then followed him as his occupation with the Border Patrol and, later, the Department of Justice carried them all over Texas before they both finally retired in San Antonio in 1996. One of Elsa's greatest qualities was her readiness for adventure. She was always excited to go wherever you invited her, whether it was to Las Vegas, Disneyworld, or the Hobby Lobby down the street.
Elsa loved creating—you could always find her painting ceramics, crocheting a scarf, or baking you your favorite cake. She was a perfectionist, and patient enough to chop every vegetable into tiny, symmetrical pieces and tame every flyaway as she braided your hair. Her nurturing spirit even extended to her plants, which bloomed for decades under her loving care.
Elsa was always sending money to various charities, but she was also generous with her time. She used to say that she "doesn't know a stranger," and would always stop and talk to anyone regardless of what she was doing or where she was going. And although she could talk your ear off, she would always listen first and knew exactly what you needed when offering loving support.
Elsa was so compassionate and fair that she would never buy just one of her children or grandchildren a present, she had to buy for them all (even on birthdays!). She loved to play games, but she was a competitor and always played to win. She had a sense of humor that wasn't always obvious but would often come up out of nowhere and fill a room with laughter. She was fiercely protective of her family, but always slow to anger and quick to forgive.
But above all, Elsa was strong. She beat pancreatic cancer and fought hard every day for the last few years of her life until she lost her final battle. She remains a hero and an inspiration to her family and everyone who loved her.
Elsa was preceded in death by her mother, Olga Sepulveda, and her father, Ignacio Sepulveda. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Judson Vincent Spring; son, Randal Spring (Jacqueline); daughters, Jennifer Zepeda (William) and Raquel Collazo (David); and her beloved grandchildren, Stephanie, Samantha, Brandon, Matthew, Victoria, and Ethan.

My sincere condolences to Elsa’s family. I am so sorry for your loss. I went to Brack High School with Elsa and she was a beautiful lady. The last time I saw Elsa and Judson was at one of our High School Reunions. May God be with you and your family during these difficult times. RIP, my friend.
