John McClanahan Obituary

John William McClanahan, Sr., 70, died of pancreatic cancer on April 26, 2004 in his Costa Mesa, CA home, surrounded by family. John was born in San Antonio, TX on March 29, 1934 to Nottie and Marion McClanahan. A graduate of TMI and West Point, Class of 1957, he served as a combat Air Force B52 pilot during the Vietnam War. His first marriage was blessed with three lovely children. In 1974, John earned a MBA at the University of Texas. Later, John and his children relocated to Tustin, CA where he worked at Fluor & Hughes Aircraft as a Program Manager. A devoted father, John enjoyed many heart felt outdoor adventures with his children. In 1988, John fell in love with Suzanne Victor and married her on March 30, 1990, with the blessings of John's children and Suzanne's daughter. During their 16 years together, John and Suzanne enjoyed spending time with their nine grandchildren. They adventured on a lifelong dream of Europe in 2002, combined with his 45th West Point Class Reunion. A member of SASS (Single Action Shooting Society), John was known as "Seldom Amos". Survivors are beloved wife, Suzanne; children, Marian Britton, Christine Dwello, John McClanahan, Jr., Therese McClane; brothers, Don and Robert McClanahan; sister-in-law, Anne McClanahan. Interment Services will be held at Sunset Memorial Park, 1701 Austin Highway on November 26, 2004 at 9:00 A.M., the Rev. Eric Fenton officiating. The family requests donations to be made to Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, 1111 Stewart Ave., Bethpage, NY 11714. www.lustgarten.org. (866) 789-1000.
