Thomas Gallagher

Thomas Robert Gallagher entered the Kingdom of Heaven in San Antonio, Texas where he had been a lifelong resident and insurance industry pioneer. He was 92. Born to Mack T. and Martha Zellmer Gallagher, September 9, 1922 he carried his boyhood passions for hunting and fishing into adulthood and brought back deer from Colorado for more than five decades, and fish from Rockport, Texas. He played minor league baseball with the St. Louis Browns. Gallagher served with the U.S. Army during WWII in Northern France, hitting the beach of Normandy + 1 then advancing to Sergeant in the Greatest Generation. After his honorable discharge he put his acquired knowledge of motors, machinery and vehicles to work starting and opening the first auto salvage pool in South Texas and the first crash estimation and appraisal business in the state in 1953. He not only took great pride in his business accomplishments, honors and awards but truly relished the friends and relationships he encountered in business and his daily life. Mr. Gallagher leaves a beautiful and ever vibrant legacy of love, kindness, and compassion, and is an enduring inspiration to his family and the many people he mentored through the years. He was the best of friends with his son, daughter in law and grandchildren. "Ampa" is survived by his son, Tim Gallagher; daughter in law, Colleen Gallagher; grandchildren, Ashtyn Gallagher and Ryan Gallagher; sister, Maxine Bowen and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mary Ellen; sister, Peggy Branard and brother, Zellmer Gallagher. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Porter Loring North.
