Kathleen was such a wonderful and kind and cheerful woman. She was the sun. I still can't forget her smile. I was a international student from japan and lived with her family for 1 year(2002-2003). Many international students will be so sad if they know kathleen passed away. I still remember I had dinner with her familyevery night. The dinner was so delicious.Especially after dinner I loved to eat the pound cake kathleen made. In the day I went back to japan she made the pound cake for me. I was to so happy to bring me back with the pound cake. My family and I ate the pound cake in Japan. My family also the cake was so delicious.Nobody can't make that special pound cake. Rest in peace

For me She was Katy´s mom. so special, so different, so loving. For me, a 12-year-old girl, it was wonderful that they were my neighbors in Spain that year. I will never forget the Piñons and today I still talk about them as one of the best experiences of my life. I feel really sad for her lost and would like to send my condolences to The family

Kathleen was so humble. It was a joy to see her each week at Mass. I miss her.
Thank you Ramon.

I had the pleasure of meeting Kathleen and her family while visiting San Diego almost 30 years ago. She left me with a lasting impression of such a wonderful person that she was. Very caring person. While staying with her and her family I hurt my ankle somehow and couldn´t even walk for days. Kathleen introduced me to acupuncture at a local college. Yes, the treatment worked and I am so thankful that Kathleen did that for me. I´m sure that she has helped so many people during her lifetime but that is one gift that she gave me and I will never forget it.
My condolences to Ramon and family.
Yours truly

I remember Kathleen as a kind, gentle, caring and loving mother coming to my Health Office at Grant Elementary School (Mission Hills) quite frequently. Her foster children accompanied her with their Immunization Record and Physical Exam report needed for school admission.
I was the School Nurse at Grant 1984 to 1993 and 1996 to 1999 when I retired.
From the obituary I learned so much about her amazing life.
I would be honored to attend the Celebration of Life in February. However, I will be attending a similar service for a friend of mine that same day and hour.
Extending my deepest sympathy to all.

My condolences to the Piñon family. I knew Jamie from SDHS and would come to their home frequently. As an only child, it was great to be in a bustling house where Ms. Piñon always treated me as family.
May God bless and keep her and, again, my condolences to the entire family.

I was very sad to hear of Kay's passing. I have many funny, touching and warm memories. The unforgettable ones have become some my own family stories that I've told my children and grandchildren, they help illustrate what a great woman she was.
In 1966 I spent my 16th birthday with Kay & family in Nijmegen, Holland. My mother, Margaret Donnachie and I enjoyed many happy hours with the newly arrived baby Jamie, the delightful little boys, Chris and Tony and we all went camping in Zuiderzee. Kay's organisation skills were astounding, packing camping gear, adults, children and Pepi the dog into a small car for a journey that seemed to take a squashed but excited few hours. Her swimming abilities were not a match for her organising talents, her style was an entertaining doggy paddle that was no match for the sea and we were assisted back to shore with Kay's assurances to me to remember that someone always turns up to help, its a phrase I often use.
My sister Patricia and I went to visit in Madrid in 1992. We arrived to be sent to our bedroom and given the task of proof reading Kay's story of the boy who was afraid of the tooth fairy. Initially we did her bidding and when we rebelled we were given beer and peanuts and sent back to finish the proofreading. We subsequently learned that if you knew the poem - 'Pure water is the greatest gift that man to man can bring but who am I to want the best of everything? Let princes tarry with the tap and kings with the pump make free. Whisky, wine or even beer are good enough for me.' - you were exempted from chores.
Kay was an inspiration, funny, kind and full of unshakable joy. She never lost her awe of even the smallest of things. Her stubborn happiness and her ability to be thankfull in all things were the stuff of legends in my family. Kay was always held up as an example of all the great things you can achieve if you are determined. I am privileged to share some of the Mullen genes that she was so proud of and I'm a better person for her wisdom and life examples. My heart goes out to her family and friends, we will always be connected in memories, love and laughter by that amazing phenomenon, Kay.

I met Kathleen when I was an international visiting medical student at UCSD and I stayed at her home. She was so kind to buy my bike that I temporarily used to commute to the hospital before I left. I knew she did it out of her kindness not because she needed the bike.
I´m now a practicing physician in the US and always wanted to pay her back the bike. Now I can only pay it forward
I´ll donate to the organization that echos Kathleen´s value. May you rest in peace

Kathleen and I met several times through her cousin Maureen O´Brien and I instantly felt a kindred heart to hers. I met Kathleen after loosing my twin boys and she took my heart in her hand. I was so pleased to tell her about both of my adopted children that she prayed for. Her spirit will never be forgotten. What an amazing life and family she had the pleasure of having. Anyone that had the chance to meet her was surely blessed!
My deepest sympathies to all
