Hi, Deb...
We were just talking about Lee a few days ago. Then I got this "Remembering Lee" e-mail from Legacy. So I did.

Earliest recollection when I was about 7. Lee and I were chasing PeeWee up Santa Monica Av. Pee Wee shot me at the Rec Center with his Red Ryder B-B- gun. We just about caught him when he threw the gun and it hit me below my right eye. Took 4 stitches but the Doctor had to put me out to do it. Every time the needle with novocaine came towards my eye I freaked out. Still have the scar. I think Lee kept the rifle.

Hello Debby Byrom with a shout-out to Pete Franklin.
I got my little Legacy notice remembering Lee Byrom and of course I still do, and kindly at that. Debby, I hope you're still in touch with our old friends there in San Diego. And Pete, I hope you had a chance to hook up with Rucker.
Remembering Lee today gave me a nice chance to say hello. The COVID crisis can't take that away from us.
Tom
P.S. Debby, I still remember your cool mid-50s Chrysler Imperial with the wire wheels at the PLHS Class of 1962 25th beach party.

Hello Pete Franklin,
Although Lee passed a few years ago now, he let us link up. Nice to hear you're still up and running. Yes, I remember your grammar school pals, especially Big John, although I didn't get to know him much until junior high. I continued associating with John, on and off, until his death. Do you know Gary Rucker lives out in La Mesa, probably not too far from you? Gary was always a good guy and did something extra for John just before he died. Gary took some kidding for putting a sign out, reserving a place for Big John at a pre-reunion party. But, it enabled an ailing John to attend the event he otherwise would not, and was one of the last get-togethers before he passed.
You may remember a party close to 20 years ago, at Tom Cresci's house, where I told you you had a secret admirer named Barbara who lived up Santa Monica from you. You were that good looking, well built older boy in the neighborhood who caught her attention.
Nice thinking of you again and especially enjoy the fact that Lee's legacy facilitated this on, of all places, the Legacy website. Small world.

P.S. I still have our original 9th grade, full class, high definition photo. I tried to find you on it so I could have included a picture of you on this post. You must have been out that day.

Hi Debby. I thought of Lee when I went to Tenny's funeral. Tenny had just turned 75 and now so would Lee, along with us all! Happy Diamond Year to you and Lee.

I played against Lee in VB at La Jolla middle school in 1972 once a week all year long. He never beat me. Then I lost to him when it counted in the OB A and he got his A rating again. R.I.P.

Long before I knew him, in 1949, '50 and '51, Lee and I must have been at O.B. Elementary at the same time. However, I could not recognize him because he wasn't wearing flip-flops and a Hawaiian shirt. He was a funny, smart and kind guy who will be missed.

Dear Debbie..
You wrote to me “My love, Lee Kenneth Byrom, left this world for his new adventure on Friday, February 10, 2011, at 0340.”
I hope that the "new adventure" includes some of the "old adventure. I'd hate for him to miss out on another go-around at being a freewheeling and, yes, somewhat mischievous Dana Jr High boy as he was when I first knew him.
Prolonged metastasized cancer can be a miserable and painful dead-end
existence so I'm glad to bid him a fond farewell now instead.

I'm looking at a photo of Lee and myself playing two legends of volleyball, VonHagen and Mengis at an O.B. open. We earned our "A" rating at that tournament. I met Lee in kindergarden O.B. elementary and we have been friends ever since. He will be greatly missed. Pete Franklin
