Albert Weber Obituary

Albert Weber
May 17, 1926 - August 18, 2014
Yountville, California
Albert Weber (Abe), 88, a longtime resident of San Francisco, died surrounded by his loving family on August 18, 2014. Albert was born May 17, 1926 in Shawnee, Oklahoma, to Joe Weber and Virginia (Fox) Weber. He was the third of seven children. In 1934, the family moved to Santa Cruz, California where he attended Holy Cross School. During WWII, he worked in the shipyards in Oakland and then joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1944. He served active duty on Bougainville (Solomon Islands) and in China and was honorably discharged in 1946.
After the war, he met and married Margaret (Peggy) O'Neill, RN. Albert and Peggy raised five boys in San Francisco's Noe Valley. Albert's son, Patrick, tragically died in Viet Nam in 1971. Albert was devoted to Peggy, who suffered for over 30 years with systemic lupus erythematosus. She died in 1984.
For over 25 years, Albert helped direct the premium accounting department of Fireman's Fund Insurance Company. He was loyal and trusted by his bosses. He was respected by his colleagues for his intelligence and esteemed by those he managed for his patience and fairness. During his career, he travelled throughout the United States to company field offices and agencies sometimes untangling multi-million dollar snafus created by inadequate accounting controls. He retired in 1986.
In 1990, Albert was very fortunate to marry Ruth O'Neill (a friend, but no relation to Peggy). They spent many years travelling and were actively involved with each other's grandchildren in San Francisco and then Seattle, Washington where they moved in 2001.
In 2008, Albert moved to the Veterans Home in Yountville, California. In these last years, he had many good times with his son Dan and his wife Fran, and their friends near and in the town of Sonoma. In these later years, spending time with his sons and their families sharing holidays and special events was his greatest joy and they loved being with him.
Albert was very fond and supportive of his devoted former daughters-in-law, Sue Weber and Yeonwha Sohn. Over many years, they appreciated his sense of humor and generosity and were always deeply concerned for his comfort and health.
Albert is survived by his brother Dugan (Margaret); his sons: Daniel (Fran), Stephen (Valery), Paul, Frank; grandchildren: Joseph (Geneva), Jason (Brianna), Marissa (Kylee), Brian (Lauren), Timothy, Christopher (Dana), Jennifer (Erick) and Jinhe; great grandchildren: Michaela, Daniel, Desirae, Keena, Stella, Sadie, Henry, Caden, Austin and Alistair. He is also survived by his wife Ruth, her son Bruce (Granya) and their children, Emma, Eilis, Brenna, Aidan and Declan.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, September 12, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church at 601 W. Agua Caliente Road, Sonoma, 95476 with a reception following in the adjacent hall.

I just heard of your Dad's death & wanted you to know that we are thinking of you all & are so sorry for your loss. Both of your parents were neat people. I will never forget how nice they were to me when I first came to CA IN 1970.
It was wonderful to see your Dad (& you all) again @ the Kelly reunion in Los Gatos a couple of years ago.
Know that he & you all are in our thoughts & prayers.
Love,
Mary (Kelly) & Mike Mottet

Our sympathies to the Weber family on the passing of Al. Although we knew him for a short time, it was apparent what a gentleman he was and that he cared for his family. I love the stories that were shared and look forward to hearing more.

We all loved our Uncle Abe. His patience and great sense of humor was always evident. We always appreciated him tolerating us when we started sitting in some of the family poker games when we were kids. I remember a day on the cliffs of Santa Cruz, striking up a conversation with an older local guy that fondly remembered the Weber boys and Abey was the first name he recalled. I will miss my uncle but feel close to him because his sons have so many of his attributes.

Al was a good friend when we worked at Fireman's Fund! Often when I was waiting for the bus he would pick me up as we lived near by and take me to 3333 California Street the Home Office for many years! I remember many good times we shared at the Company with many friends!
