I also was fortunate to know Mr. Proud. I believe that we all have a few people in our life's that greatly influence us . Well Mr. Proud was the most outstanding of all . He made life fun for us in his class room , (early sixties) with lasting memory's that we hold dear to our hearts, down to this day .He was the kind of man that became you friend. I was part of the small group that got together and went to visit Mr. Proud and his wife a couple years back . It made Mr. Him feel good that we would take the time and get together after a few years of not seeing each other. He really enjoyed seeing the hot rods my friends drove over to show him . You might say it made his day !!! Well, in my heart I know that the ones that benefited the most from that memorable day was once again the students . That is what separated Mr. Proud from the rest . His ability to make you fell good when you were in his presence . I feel fortunate that he was in my life . My heart felt condolences to his family . RIP my friend .

Mr. Proud was a fine teacher with a great sense of humor, generous, a positive role model and compassionate human being. I was privileged to be his student for four years (FOHI Class of 62), spent many hours at his house with my fellow students who kept project animals in his back yard, traveled with him to buy FFA project steers as well as to the SB county fair in Victorville and the LA county fair in Pomona. It wasn't until a few years ago that I learned he was a WWII vet and POW and that he had been awarded a Purple Heart. He was a modest person in that regard and as a veteran myself, I feel very grateful that he influenced my life as he did. I loved to tease him about being a terrible baseball umpire and he always grumbled something back to me. Rest in Peace Mr. Proud. Vivian, Carol, Tom and John, and family. I am so sorry for your loss. I wish I could attend the service.

My so sorry to hear that Mr. Proud has passed away. I was your fathers barber for many years in Fontana. He would call me to make sure I was working on the day he wanted to have his haircut. We would always joke back and forth on that phone call. Him calling me a "Old Dingbat Barber" and I would reply, " Is this the Picky Riverside Guy". We had many good conversations while I stood behind the barber chair. After I retired , I really missed his phone conversatioins.
My Brother Bill McMullen and my husband Ron Garrison were both students in his FFA class at Fohi. My Husband and I go to car shows with a classic Pick up. One day at a car show, all the guys were talking about where was Mr. Proud. So that is how they all ended up coming over for a visit a few years ago. I think Howard enjoyed the visit as much as they did seeing him. He called them the, "HOODLUMS". The pictures that they took that day ended up in the 1962 50 year Reunion. Many past students wrote that Mr. Proud had made a profound influence on them , that carried thru to their adult life.
My heart goes out to your Mom and all of the family.
