So sad... dear Ian so many years since NIMR London and our young time. We send Christmas's e-cards from time to time but the last was 2013-14 and I felt today to say hello to you feeling sorry for loosing contact. I wanted to 'hear' your witty warm voice and know about Madeline being now a little girl surely beautiful. But instead of your address I got this... a piece of my life left with you and now is at peace, with you. A big hug, Ian. Hope your family is doing well keeping your loving memories alive. Ian was one of my best friends at school (high school ... really sixth form college) - Newman College, Preston, UK where he was from Sept 78 - June 80. We spent a lot of time together those years... I remember his Hillman Imp - not the sexiest car but still sexier than mine (i.e. nothing), sharing a bed in a hotel in Windermere..cos we couldn't find a room with 2 and trying not to touch each other, playing pool in St. Annes, playing golf at new year with your Dad when it was rather cold and wet, watching U2 at Salford U, Ultravox and Buzzcocks at Blackburn, Salford Jets (twice) and The Fall (and missing JD) at the Warehouse, playing really bad tennis, seeing pre-season games at North End..which put us off the rest of the season, drinking Boddingtons when it was real, supplying too many drinks on your 18th so you were a little tipsy......
Ian was one of the nicest guys you ever met, with that down to earth (English) Northern-ness and drole sense of humo(u)r I miss so much here in the US.
It was weird how we completely lost touch after he left to do his PhD in London and it is ironic he has been here in the US. I've been thinking about him often and have been Googling in recent years but could never find anything....which I realize now is probably because he seems to have been C. I. for the last 30 years not I. C. as we knew him ....he was actually known at school as IC, more so than Ian, and was listed in the school handbook as Spencer, Ian C. ..so my Medline and Google Searches yielded nothing...until today and part of me wished I had not been successful in my search, because I am too late. Rest in Peace Ian, thoughts and prayers with your family.

Emma,
I still in shock to hear of Ian's passing. He was a great friend and a real support during my time in the US. Even though it has been many years my fond memories of him (and you too) have not dulled. Funnily enough whilst tidying out some old stuff on Saturday, I found a card from you two from back in '06....)
Love
Jamie..

Ian was always a friendly and kind person with a great sense of humour. I will miss his youthful energy and his enthusiasm - I wish I had been able to see him and Emma since our last visit to San Francisco in July of 2009, especially with Maddie. One memory I have is when Emma, Ian and I went rowing on a lake in PA and Ian was telling Em and I had to row, but wasn't helping us much! Cheeky fellow! My husband James enjoyed the time we spent with Ian and Emma - given that James is English as well. We will always miss you Ian! Love, Bekki and James
