He played dominoes every Friday night with his special friends, Barbara and A.C. Looney, and Pat Cathey. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Joppa Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 60 years, Eljuana, his brother Rudy, sisters, Helen Milburn, Gloria Rorex, June Abney and sister-in-law Mary Ella Lawless. His faithful companion Teddy, his dog, died two weeks before Dommie.

My most sincere sympathy to the family of Dommie. My father and Mother, Grady Kelley, of Shreveport (grew up in Elysian Fields with Dommie) spoke very fondly and often of Dommie. Dommie's obituary was lovely and it truly sounds like he did live a very, very good life.

Marsha and family, Dommie will always be special to our family and hearts. He lived the silent servants life. I was always amazed that he knew how everyone in the church drank their coffee and could have their cup of coffee waiting for them almost the moment they walked through the door! I love the story Dad Culbertson tells of when he took my grandson to visit him. Dommie asked if he wanted candy and Michael told him no, it wasn't good for him and he would prefer broccoli. Dad C said that tickled Dommie and he laughed about it often. Big smile to my heart! He was a gentle giant. He showed us how to serve, laugh and love. He will be greatly missed.

I have known Mr. Lawless for my entire life going on 57 years and always remembered how he greeted everyone at church. If you were a member or a visitor he always greeted you with the love of Christ, his light that glowed reflected his faith and trust in Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This will be one person that will truly be missed. When Mr. Lawless stands infront of Our Lord and Savior he will be told "Well done my good and faithful servent". Rest in peace and know you will truly be missed.

We in the Yarbrough family were saddened to learn that Dommie passed away. Mother and I talked about those days at the La. State Fair Mangum booth and Dommie making those good hamburgers. He coached Gary, my brother, in Little League Baseball and was a good friend of my Dad, Donald, who is no longer with us.

Marsha, our thoughts and prayers are with with you and the rest of the family. May you take comfort in how loved your dad was by so many.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Dommie D. Lawless, Jr. our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Dommie. And to Dommie it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during WW-II while serving in the U.S. Navy. Dommie, we commend you for your honorable service. You are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, Generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. You were a true friend. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.
