Walden Liston Obituary

Walden W. Wad Age 86, of Gambier, died Monday November 19, 2001 at the Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. Walden was born in Streator, Illinois on December 8, 1914 the youngest of eight children of Edward Liston and Hattie (Carnahan) Liston. He married Virginia (Eddy) Liston on November 12, 1937. Walden worked for Thatcher Glass Company in Streator, Ill. and Elmira, New York. He had also been employed at the Glass Division of American Can Company; Midland Glass and Knox Glass and retired in 1975 from the Chattanooga Glass Company in Mount Vernon. Walden spent 16 years with IESC (International Executive Service Corps). He and Virginia served in Seoul, Korea; Twice in the Philippines; Twice in Cairo, Egypt; Caracas, Venezuela; Sao Paulo, Brazil and Karchicarchie, Pakistan. He served 6 years 1933 thru 1939 with the Illinois National Guard, was a member of the Masonic Lodge and American Legion. Mr. Liston is survived by his loving wife Virginia; sons Thomas Liston of Columbus, Georgia, Timothy (Elaine) Liston of Merritt Island, FLa., Michael Liston of Gambier, daughters Gretchen (Thomas) Harris of Magnolia, Texas, and Karen McCullough of Utica, Ohio. Walden has 10 grandchildren Scott Harris, Susan (Harris) Croft, Kristen (Harris) Guy, Debra (Liston) Serpico, Bryan Liston, Peter Liston, Shelly (McCullough) Robinson, Kim McCullough, Stacey (Liston) Reaves and Timothy Liston; 2 great grandchildren Alyssa Bitanti and Sarah Guy. He was preceded in death by his parents 3 brothers Hugh, Frank, and Robert and 4 sisters Grace Haar, Irene Sowerby, Marian Morrison and Hattie Fibbs. The most important thing about Walden Liston he was a loving husband, father and grandfather. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be Friday at 11 AM at the Perry Chapel Baptist Church near Bladensburg with Rev. David Fowls officiating. Burial will be in the Perry Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is in charge of arrangements.
