David Allison Obituary

David Allison, Sr. David Allison, Sr., stone mason, political adviser and father was truly a man who understood how precious life is. Mr. Allison was involved in a bike accident and died on Friday, October 9th on the Natchez Trace in Mississippi. Mr. Allison, 47, was involved in fulfilling a life-long dream of biking the trace, all 500 miles. Mr. Allison devoted his life to the next challenge, the next horizon and his three children. He did extensive research on the life and works of Robert Burns, world politics and the Gaelic world. His friends and colleagues often credited him as being an open and freely loving man, truly compassionate and kind. David Allison, Sr. is remembered as a singer, a poet and a man who lived for his family. He is survived by his two sons, Patrick Allison, of Tucson, Arizona; David Allison, Jr., of Memphis, Tennessee; and daughter, Gwyndolyn Allison, of Monterey, California, and Bill and Avanelle Allison of Madison, MS. A memorial service has been scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church, 188 Thompson Lane, in Nashville on October 19th.

Whatever his role in your life; father, brother, husband, best friend, most-beloved; for me he was a delight in my life. I only saw Gaz a couple of times a year but he was always kind, funny, thought-provoking, slightly irreverent and charming. Celebrate him. Laugh, tell stories, remember how he could drive you crazy!!, love him now and forever - just like you always have.

No one ever understands the hurt when a close and very wonderful friend leaves you. Mr David, you are so very much missed and I know your beautiful children are so very blessed to have such a remarkable father.

I was shocked by the news that David had been killed in a bike accident in Mississippi. The message did not get through promptly, and I only found out today, Oct. 31. I knew Dave at Measurement Inc, the test-grading gig. David has a great spirit, which will serve him well in his new life. We enjoyed a great meal at a Cajun restaurant in Nashville before he went to Arizona. I find it interesting that he died on the Natchez Trace almost 200 years to the day after another outstanding American adventurer, Meriwether Lewis, died on the Natchez Trace, admittedly under very different circumstances. But, the 2 have this in common: They were both taken from this life too early to suit those who knew and loved them. My condolences to David's parents, to his sons and daughter. Your son and dad was a great guy. He will be missed, but not forgotten. A friend, Dana Lowe

Mr and Mrs. Allison:
I was told Sunday about the loss of David and words can not express the sympathy I have for you and your family.
David was one of my best friends and we kept in touch and talked often. I will miss him greatly.
Patrick, David, Jr. and Gwyndolyn: Even though I have not been priviledged to have met each of you, your dad spoke proudly of each one of you and always shared with me about 'His Kids'.
I pray that each of you will feel the peace of God during this time and the days ahead.

God Bless you all.
