Mary Watkins Obituary

Watkins, Mary Margaret

(nee Williams), lovingly known as Mickey to her friends and family, passed away at the age of 81 on March 11, 2023. She was surrounded by her husband, Michael of 59 years, daughter, Stephanie (Steven) Bush, Susan (Peter) Piccione and special friends Nancy and Laura Molnar.

Mary was born in St. Louis, MO on September 30, 1941 to parents, Charles and Mary. She attended St. Cronin Grade School and was a proud graduate of Rosati-Kain High School. Her nursing career began as a graduate of St. Mary's Nursing School. Her favorite patients were special needs children and senior citizens.

Mary was the eldest sibling and cherished her role as sister to Charles Williams (deceased), Michael Dattoli Jr. (deceased), M. Kevin (Rita) Williams, Sharon (Jack) Blanton, Patricia Drazen, Claudia Blankenship (deceased) and Lena Steffen. As a result, she was often mentioned as a favorite aunt and beloved sister-in-law. Mary was a beloved cousin of many.

Her most treasured role was as grandmother to Paige (Jared) Hampp, Genevieve Piccione, Abigail Bush and Caroline Bush. She loved these strong and independent young women and delighted in hearing about their adventures while telling them all of her "Momo" stories. Goodbyes were not complete until they received a bright red lipstick kiss from her on the tops of their heads.

She was the most gracious step-grandmother to Jessica Engstrom and Stephanie Benoit.

Mary's legacy as Momo grew as Teagen Elizabeth Hampp became the first great-grandchild and was soon followed by the first boy in the family, Connell Ryan Hampp. Her love knew no bounds.

"Perfect" Peter and "Saint" Steven were the names bestowed on her sons-in-law. The love and laughter were shared by them.

Mary's final days were filled with friends upon friends praying and calling on her. There are too many to name, but you know who you are, and we are eternally grateful for your care.

Her home was tastefully decorated but always with a touch of whimsy and we will miss her suggestions" and "hints" and "additional hints" for new trinkets!

Mary had a deep faith, and each of us knew that we were provided extra protection through her daily Rosary prayers. She faced her final challenge with grace, strength and humility. We knew we were loved, and our hearts were full as she shared, "I love you the most, Michael."

Services: Visitation will be held at Kutis Affton Chapel (10151 Gravois Rd.) on Tuesday, March 14th, 2023 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Raphael the Archangel, Wednesday, March 15th at 10 a.m.

I remember many laughs and some tears were sitting around Carol Molnar's table with Mickey. Such a sweet lady who always loved to give her puppies kisses with her bright lipsticks and the puppy walked around with "kiss stained forehead". Sending love to Mike and their girls.
