Arthur Smith Obituary

Arthur James Smith, age 93, of Plymouth, Minnesota, died on January 11, 2025, while in hospice at Wealshire Medina. He was born on November 24, 1931, to William Arthur and Mary Ethel (Gifford) Smith in Lake Crystal, Minnesota.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia L. Thoen of Plymouth, MN, and his son, James Arthur Smith of Concord, MA, and their many family members and friends.

He taught and directed Bands in Hector, Fairmont, and Rosemount, Minnesota. He retired from District 196 in 1987 after building the well-respected band program begun in 1965. Art was devoted to family and friends, was warm and humorous, and as an educator, was dedicated to helping each and every one of his students grow as musicians and as people.

Memorial Service Saturday, June 14 at 11:00am with visitation one hour prior at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church, 511 Groveland Ave, Minneapolis, MN. The 11:00am service will be live-streamed from the church and archived on the church website: https://haumc.org/live/.
