Gertrude Rabinowitz Obituary

RABINOWITZ Rabinowitz, Gertrude, 87, died at her residence in Plantation on November 1, 2002, succumbing to Emphysema. Gert, a New York native, had lived in the Fort Lauderdale area for more than two decades. She and her lifelong love, the late Abe Rabinowitz, were married for 60 years before he passed away in 1997. The two shared an immeasurable love for each other and for their family, especially their only son, Howard, who died in 1998. Although these passings filled her with extreme sadness, she stayed devoted to her remaining family and friends. Gert's feisty spirit also stayed strong, always adding energy and an honest opinion to a conversation. For the majority of her time in Florida, Gert lived in the Spyglass community in Tamarac. Spyglass offered her an opportunity to engage simultaneously in two of her favorite pastimes, playing golf and socializing with friends. Gert was also an avid reader who enjoyed educated discussions of current events. Befriending Gert brought much joy to those who knew her and many will mourn her passing. She is survived by granddaughters, Deborah Rabinowitz of Albuquerque, NM and Lorii Rabinowitz-Guckenberger and her husband Don Guckenberger of Englewood, CO; daughter-in-law, Diane Wood of Albuquerque, NM; and brother and sister-in-law, George and Harriet Mann of New York, NY, Gert's life will continue to be celebrated with fond stories and memories.
