Priscilla Hill Obituary

PRISCILLA SPAULDING HILL (87) of Big Pine Key died on June 26, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

Priscilla was born in Montgomery, Alabama, to Ralph and Rossa (Brown) Spaulding on March 9, 1934.

The daughter of an Air Force Colonel, she, as a young child, lived at Hickham Field, in Hawaii, across the fence from Pearl Harbor, where her father was stationed in the early years of World War II. The family survived the attack on Pearl Harbor, after which she, along with her mother and brother, Frank, were evacuated stateside. Her father stayed to serve in the South Pacific for the duration of the war.

Priscilla met her husband, Gordon, in 1951 on a blind date, set up by his brother David, and it was love at first sight. They married in 1952 and started a family. She took care of the household in support of Gordon during his medical school attendance, internship, and surgical residency, followed by Army Medical service. The couple and their young family then moved from New York to Pompano Beach where they completed a family of seven children. She lovingly cared for the sizable family of adventurous kids there while Dr. Hill practiced orthopedic surgery for fifty years until his retirement after which they moved their primary home to Big Pine Key.

Especially fond of mysteries, she was a prolific reader who also enjoyed crosswords and bridge. She was widely considered to be one of the most exceptional players by members of her beloved bridge club.

Priscilla was a consummate hostess, warmly welcoming all and cooking delicious meals for large festive gatherings in a manner that seemed effortless.

She is survived by her adoring husband, Gordon, their seven children - Amy, Katherine, Kenneth, Marjorie, Franklin, Rebecca and Janet - along with five grandchildren, a great granddaughter, and a large extended family.

Words cannot describe how deeply she will be missed, and her family is sincerely grateful for the condolences and kindness shown at this time.

There are no words to express the loss to this family. Priscilla always fondly known as "Priss" or Mom, was the matriarch of the Hill family. You never saw Gordy without Priss...usually driving him around, sitting in the car reading a book while he was doing his business. I was lucky enough to have gotten to see her and their beautiful home in the Keys, with Kenny just a few weeks before she passed. I want to send all my love to this wonderful family. Especially to Big Daddy, you were lucky to be married to the Love of your Life until her last day. She may have passed but your memories NEVER Will. Kenny you are so lucky to have been able to hug her and spend time with her when you did. I know I was. I feel honored to be a part of this special family all these years. Sending my Love & Prayers to you All. Love Bambi
