David Smith Obituary
CHILHOWIE, Va.
David Larry "Buddy" Smith, 86, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie, Va. He was born on December 21, 1935, to Opal Dameron and Otis Smallwood Smith in Russell County, Va. Larry was an elder at Marion Gospel Chapel for over 50 years. He was a missionary for American Missionary Fellowship, ministering through released time Bible classes and Bible schools. He worked closely with many churches in Smyth, Russell and Wythe Counties. He was married to Sylvia Kay Jefferson on December 19, 1956. Family members, daughters, Laura Teaters Brown and spouse, Ted, Joyce Marie Collins (deceased); grandsons, Aaron Teaters, David Preston Teaters and spouse, Dannelle, Matthew Counts, and Tyler Counts and spouse, Grace; great-granddaughters, Olivia and Eloise Teaters; siblings, Joann Carty (deceased), Nada Kelley and spouse, Denise Minor and spouse, Renea Insalago and spouse, Otis Lee Smith, and Vanessa Pritchard and spouse.
"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the lord and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper." Psalm 1: 1-3.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Chilhowie Baptist Church. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Claudville, Va. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6:30 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service at the church. Condolences can be made to the family online at www.wfhchilhowie.com.
