Charles POE Obituary

POE, Charles W., 85, went home to be with the Lord on May 2, 2014. He was born in Tampa, Florida on August 23, 1928. Predeceased by his wife, Haven W. Poe, parents, Fred and Zula Poe, and brother, William F. Poe Sr. He attended Hillsborough High School, where he was a member of ROTC, Key Club, Youth for Christ, the House of Representatives, and a member of the rifle team. Charlie was awarded a scholarship to and attended the University of Florida, where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in 1949. Following graduation from college, Charlie enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He then went to work for Tampa Sand and Materials, which later became Florida Mining and Materials. In 1974, Charlie purchased City Ready Mix. He grew this business into a regional company with multiple locations. Charlie was a member of the Builders Association of Tampa and Chairman of the Florida Concrete Products Association. Charlie was an active member of the local community. He served as an Elder at Hyde Park Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla and Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club. Charlie was an avid outdoorsman. He loved spending time playing golf in the mountains at Wildcat Cliffs Country Club in Highlands, North Carolina. He also enjoyed fishing at the Green Swamp Lodge. His greatest love was his family. He is survived by his two daughters, Lynn Reynolds and Jennifer Wolf (Boyd), grandchildren, Ryan Reynolds (Nicole), Charlsey Reynolds, Lauralee Reynolds, Brendle Wolf and Jay Wolf, sister, Doris Anderson, sister-in-law Betty Poe, first cousins, Douglas Poe Cone, Duane Cone, as well as his many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Charlie's caregivers: Brenda Robinson, Gladis Johnson, Jim Joseph and Claudine Drummond. May God bless them for their love and service. Charlie will be remembered as a true gentleman, devoted husband and loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He was a gracious friend to many. A memorial service will be held at Hyde Park Presbyterian Church, 1309 W. Swann Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33606, on Wednesday, May 7 at 3:00 PM and there will be a reception in the fellowship hall immediately following the service.
