William Saunders Obituary

SAUNDERS, William S. "Bill," 80, of Riverview, Fla., passed away Friday, February 18, 2005, at LifePath Hospice House. Bill was a retired electrician. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marine from 1942 through 1969. He retired from the U.S. Coast Guard with a commendation from President Harry Truman. He worked for the New York City Transit Authority until his retirement in 1985. He was one of the founders and a lifetime member of The Par and Bogie Golf Club. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Leon S. Saunders and Jeanette Saunders Anderson. His family includes his loving wife, Johnnie Saunders; daughter, Joann Morton (John Mitchell); her mother, Lois Saunders; his stepchildren, Kenneth Carrethers, Jeanette (Theodore) Wilkes, James Carrethers, Karen Holt (Thornton Reid); his grandchildren, Myles Morton, Vernice Williams, Jeannine Callahan, Lt. Jamall Carrethers (Danielle), Staff Sgt. Joseph Carrethers (Alischea), Sean Ricketts, Kristen Holt, Michael Holt, Marsha Tredele Carrethers, Shawna Ford, Kenneth Carrethers III, Kawaun Carrethers, Jewella Griffey (Tyron) and James Carrethers Jr.; 11 great-grand children; and first cousins, Ida Coleman and Bettye Swanston. He had a very special group of friends that he loved. He knew he could always count on them, including John Byrd and Richard Woodard. A celebration of his life will be held June 3, 2005.
