Franklin "Sonny" Saad, 80

Oxford - Franklin "Sonny" Saad, 80, of Plantation Road, died Monday, April 25, 2016, at Lanessa Extended Care in Webster. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Janet M. (Pytko) Saad of Oxford; four children, Cynthia Johnson and her husband Alan of Webster, Stephen Saad and his wife Kelly of Loganville, GA, Patricia Cloutier and her husband Joe of Oxford, and James Saad and his wife Tammy of Rocky Hill, CT; a brother, Harry G. Saad of Dudley; four sisters, Mary J. Guy, Alice "Lou" Saad of Oxford, Anne J. Naleski of Dudley, and Tina J. Wennerberg of Oxford; 8 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by 12 brothers and sisters, Joseph Saad, Elvira Sousa, John Saad, Michael Saad, Napoleon "Nippy" Saad, Estelle Jackson, Anthony "Bobby" Saad, Alfred Saad, Aurora Saad, William Saad, Agnes Smolen, and George J. "Tuta" Saad Jr. He was born in Webster, son of the late George J. and Joanna (Monterio) Saad, Sr., and was a lifelong resident of Oxford. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Sonny was president of Saad Garnetting Mills Inc., in Webster. In addition, he was a member of the Oxford Police Department for 36 years, the Oxford Police Association, Massachusetts Police Association, Central Massachusetts Police Association, and the Sherriff's Association of Worcester County.

Sonny was active in many Oxford community activities and was recipient of the Good Citizen Award in April of 1985. He was a past member of Oxford Recreation Committee, active supporter of youth activities, active in sports, coached the church basketball team, little league and Babe Ruth baseball. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 5663 and the American Legion Post 58, both in Oxford. He was a longtime member of the Oxford Lions Club. He was a member of St. Roch's Church in Oxford and was an avid Red Sox fan. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Lanessa Extended Care in Webster for the wonderful care they provided.

A funeral will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016, from Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Roch's Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at St. Roch's Cemetery in Oxford. Calling hours are Friday, April 29, 2016, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be sent in memory of Sonny to Operation Santa in care of Oxford Police Department, 503 Main St., Oxford, MA 01540.

RIP Sonny...I am writing in here for a good friend and a partner of yours on the Police force for 8 years for he did not have a computer or other means to give his condolences. Uncle Sonny always helped me when i was a young stupid teenager and as well later in life when I had troubles times, I could never have repaid him for this. He had a wonderful wife and all his children are exceptional people in every way. He was a blessed Person. RIP Sir and thank you.

I remember Sonny as a neighbor when I was a kid and dealt with him for many years when he was a member of the police department. I dont ever recall him raising his voice or saying a bad word about anyone. He was a kind man that gave of himself time and time again. Oxford lost a wonderful member of its community and he will be missed by all. My condolences to the Saad family on their loss.
