Julia M. Maestas, 97 of Sterling, CO passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2021 in Sterling with her family at her side. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 9 at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 10 at St. Anthony Catholic Church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. with the Very Reverend Michael Bodzioch celebrating. Julia will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery. Julia was born February 16, 1923 in Topeka, KS to Marcos and Rosario (Delgado) Montezino. She married Jose F. Maestas, Sr. in Mitchell, NE in 1950. She lived in Peetz, CO for 12 years, in Sidney, NE for 10 years, in Greeley, CO for 5 years and then moved to Sterling for the remaining years of her life. Julia loved to cook for her family and was noted for her homemade tortillas and beans. She enjoyed sewing, working outdoors in her garden, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jose F. Maestas, Sr; daughter Maria Sickler; son-in-law Melvin Sickler, son-in-law Rocky Payne, Sr.; granddaughter Katie Maestas, grandson Zachary Maestas; 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Julia is survived by her children Jose F. Maestas, Jr of Sidney, NE, Sandy Payne of Sterling, CO, Josie (Merle) Sickler of Platteville, CO, Raymond (Yvetta) Maestas of Sidney, NE and Robert (Vicki) Maestas of Northglenn, CO; 23 grandchildren and 109 great-grandchildren.
