Frances Salinas Obituary

Frances Mary Salinas, 70, of Grand Island died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010, at St. Francis Hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Jonathan Sorensen will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home, with a vigil service at 7.

Mrs. Salinas was born on Aug. 7, 1940, in Grand Island to Frank and Ernestina C. (Cantu) Guerrero.

She was preceded in death by infant twin sons.

Survivors of the immediate family include her husband Alex of Grand Island; three daughters and sons-in-law, Ernestine and David Dahlke, Frances and Rigo Sandoval and Helen and Don Batenhorst, all of Grand Island; a brother, Marion Guerrero of Grand Island; and a sister, Rachel Mendez of Wood River.

Additional survivors include 10 grandchildren, Chris, Heidi, Miguel, Derek, Rebecca, Lucas, Alex, Nina, Jessica and Megan, and one great granddaughter, Alexis; and almost like a son, Jesus (Chewy) Landeros; and a special friend, Nina Skeen.

She grew up and received her education in Grand Island. She was united in marriage to Alejandro (Alex) Salinas on March 26, 1955, at St. Mary's Cathedral. The couple made their home in Grand Island where they raised their three daughters. Frances was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved cooking and gardening.

Frances was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother, John Guerrero, two sisters, Gabina Mendez and Flora Roman, two nieces, Cloette Rose and Angie Roman and her dog, Silver Dollar.

I remember when I was growing up Auntie Frances and Uncle Alex and the family use come and visit the Moncada's and stay with us, she was always a fun person and she would spoil me. She's a very kind Auntie. When I was little she would always find the time to write to me and I would respond back, so yes she has always been thought of in my heart. I will always remember her kind words and jester's to me. My thought,s and prayer's go to all family member's. Love and miss you.

I remember Frances as being the kindest person. Being there for everyone, even after she became ill. All those little things she said and did showed you what a great friend and relative she was. Uncle, and family of aunt frances, You are all in my prayers, I wish the kids and I could come down, but unfortunatley we are unable to make it, Aunt Frances was my favorite aunt, an will be greatly missed, but at least now her and grandma alice can make heaven beautiful with all their flowers. May the peace of God be with you during this time of grief.
