JIM GIBLIN Obituary

JIM GIBLIN
McALLEN - Jim Giblin passed away peacefully on November 9, 2011. He was born December 1917 in New York City to Marjorie and Michael Giblin, proud descendants of Irish immigrants. Jim was a pilot in the Army Air Corps during World War II, and was shot down during a bombing raid over Italy. Jim later escaped and made his way across the Italian countryside to reunite with Allied forces.
Jim married the love of his life Carmen Alonzo in April of 1945 and they enjoyed 50 wonderful years of marriage before Carmen passed away in 1996. Jim and Carmen lived in many parts of the world, but when they moved to McAllen in 1962 they found the perfect community to spend the rest of their lives. Their daughter Pamela is happily married to Malcom Smith, who grew up in McAllen. They will miss Jim immensely but are grateful for the incredible inspiration of his full and uplifting life. Funeral service will be Friday 11, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the burial to follow at Roselawn Cemetery.

Jim was our neighbor during the 10 years we lived on Chicago Avenue (1993-2003). It was a privilege to know him and Carmen, and to hear his amazing stories about his war experiences, meeting Carmen, and living in different places. Our deepest condolences to Pamela and the rest of the family. He will be missed.
