Kenneth Vowels Obituary

Kenneth Irwin Vowels, 76, of Vine Grove, went to his heavenly home Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, at his home.

"Kenny" was lay leader for the Elizabethtown district of the United Methodist Church and also was a part-time pastor for the United Methodist Church. He retired after 38 years of service with civil service work at Fort Knox. His other activities include being past president of the Jaycees and a judge of the Kentucky Junior Miss Pageant. He also was a Kentucky Colonel.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara McNutt Vowels; a daughter, Tambra Sue (Brandon) Raney of Elizabethtown; a son, Kenneth (Christy) Vowels of Carrollton; a stepdaughter, Deborah Mink of Louisville; a stepson, Kenneth Troy Mink of Muncie, Ind.; four grandchildren, Emily Kensey Raney, Megan Grace Raney, Jackson Andrew Vowels and Lillian Rose Vowels; a sister, Betty (Michael) Vessels; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at Vine Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Eugene Strange officiating. Burial is private at Ridge Spring United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Ken. He was truly a servant of God. His many years of service as a Lay Leader and Lay Speaking Director were commendable. He truly understood what it meant to be committed and dedicated to a job. He will be missed. God bless you and your family!
