Edward Kuhn Obituary

KUHN, EDWARD J.; age 89; of Waterford; passed away peacefully on June 20, 2013; born December 28, 1923. Mr. Kuhn was a graduate of Central Michigan University and received his Master's Degree from University of Michigan. Mr. Kuhn taught for 37-1/2 years in the Hazel Park School District, most of those years at Hazel Park High School, where he has endowed several scholarships for graduating seniors. For more than 30 years, Mr. Kuhn chaperoned young men, women and adults on a three-week trip to Alaska, often assisting them with the expenses of the trip. A lifelong bachelor, Mr. Kuhn is survived by his brother, Judge Richard D. Kuhn (Sally)l sisters-in-law, Randy, Mary, Anne, Doris and Pat; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Charles F. Kuhn and Ella Meinke Kuhn; brothers, Charles, Albert, John, Henry, Robert, George and Paul; and sisters, Helen Frisbie and Clara Belle Graham. Following his retirement in 1989, Mr. Kuhn enjoyed traveling the world, often with AAA Michigan. He was a member of the 60+ exercise group at Oakland University and a life member of the Waterford Senior Center. For the past several years, Mr. Kuhn resided at Canterbury-on-the-Lake in Waterford, where he enjoyed participating in many social events and activities. He was a long-standing member of Metropolitan United Methodist Church in Detroit. A Funeral Service will be held Sunday (today) at 4 p.m. at St. Luke's Memorial Chapel at Canterbury-on-the-Lake, 5601 Hatchery Rd., Waterford. Family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 3:30 p.m. Family suggests memorials to Canterbury-on-the-Lake, 5601 Hatchery Rd., Waterford. A.J. Desmond & Sons, 248-362-2500. I just ran across this post of the passing of Mr. Kuhn. I was a student of his at Martin Road school and have many fond memories of him. I met him once again just before they tore down the school and had a picture taken of us together. May He Rest In Heavenly Peace.

I have often thougth of Mr. Kuhn since graduating from HPHS in 1967. He was a great teacher. I believe he is one of the reasons that I became a teacher. We were lucky to have known him. He will continue to be remembered.

I never had Mr. Kuhn as a teacher but everyone at Hazel Park High School knew him. It would be fair to say that so did everyone in the city.
