Col. Marlon Warren Yankee (U.S. Air Force Ret.), 73, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, formerly of Rogersville, passed away Aug. 23 in Colorado with his family by his side.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1974 until retirement in 2004. He retired as a Colonel at Peterson Air Force Base. He served at 10 military bases, including twice at the Pentagon during his military career. He served in Space and Missiles Operations and held positions of Commander and Vice Wing Commander at certain stations. He was honored with the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with Five Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal and Achievement Medal. He was a Purple Heart recipient from injuries sustained at the Aug. 31, 1981, terrorist bombing of his installation at Ramstein Air Base, Germany.
He was preceded in death by his father: Arlon Yankee; his mother: Norma Hunley Yankee; a nephew: David Yankee; a brother: Mark Yankee; a sister-in-law: Christine Yankee; and a niece: Monica Daniels.
He is survived by his wife; Lois Parker Yankee; a daughter: Michelle Yankee; a son: Kent Yankee; a granddaughter: Tessa Yankee Ogan; a grandson-in-law: Josh Ogan; a great-grandson: Parker Ogan; a granddaughter: Marley Yankee; siblings: Merrill Yankee, Marsha (Bobby) Frazier, Marlene (Kenneth) Dobbs , Madonna (Miles) Hartgrove, Myra Yankee, Marcella (Jimmy) Cradic, and Myron Yankee; and several nieces and nephews.
