Born in Lancaster County, SC, Mr. Stover was a 1951 graduate of, what was then, Clemson College, with a B.S. degree in agricultural education. After graduating from Clemson, he served as a platoon leader and commanding officer for the 3rd Armored Division during the Korean War. Following his military service, he began his career as the agriculture teacher and FFA advisor at Pelion High School. Under his leadership, the chapter was very active and received many awards for achievements. In 1965, Mr. Stover was hired by the Office of Vocational Education, S.C. Department of Education where he served as state supervisor of Agricultural Education, advisor for the S.C. Association of Future Farmers of America and the S.C. Young Farmers of America. He served in this capacity until retiring in 1984. In 1985 Mr. Stover was named executive director and treasurer of the newly created S.C. FFA Foundation. Mr. Stover was presented the Order of the Palmetto, the highest honor given to a civilian in South Carolina, by Governor Nikki R. Haley in June of 2012. Mr. Stover was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Betty A. Stover. He is survived by two daughters, Joyce Davis (Mark) and Ann Marie Boswell (Tom); son, Frank Stover, Jr. (Melissa); grandchildren, Claudia Boswell Starling (Chris), Bridgette Davis, Grace and Warren Stover; and great-grandchild, Savannah Starling. Frank was my FFA advisor. He and I have shared a number of wonderful FFA experiences that range from the chapter there in Pelion, to the State FFA, and then onto the National FFA stage. Being his Public speaking contestant, on the State winning Parliamentary Procedure team, and State winning Soil Judging team were all exciting experiences for a young fellow in high school. I would have never been State FFA president nor National FFA Vice President if not for his mentorship and consistent encouragement to do better. He not only kept me focused, but influenced all in the South Carolina FFA organization to greatness.

Joyce..I'm so sorry to hear about your father's passing and please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Although this is a very difficult time, think about how lucky you were to have your father by your side for so many years and benefit from his wisdom and presence. He was certainly a very passionate man who gave a lot to his country, his community and most importantly, his family. I see many of these characteristics instilled in you and I am sure he is very proud. Know that although you will miss him, he will always be there for you.

It has been a pleasure to get to know Mr. Frank as an adult and to reminisce about old times at Pelion High School. As the Mayor of Pelion, I have also enjoyed our "political" discussions. While we could not solve the world's problems, we had some great ideas and fun talking about them! My prayers and thoughts are with his family.

I only knew Mr. Frank a little while. He always encouraged me to always enjoy what I was doing. I wished I could have heard him play a mandolin. He played a guitar, and I loved his stories. I wished I knew him longer, he was such a beautiful soul, Thank you for sharing yourself with the world.
